Childs Woven Scarf-Hat Free Crochet Pattern – My last free crochet child’s hat and scarf pattern proved to be so popular, that I decided to design another.

The one is in an easy woven stitch and is very quick to crochet up.

The materials used for the sample are Stylecraft Special DK yarn in colors Aspen, Cream and Silver using 5.50mm & 4.00mm Clover crochet hooks

Childs Woven Scarf-Hat Free Crochet Pattern

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

ch3 counts as first dc

Approx Finished size
Scarf:  43 Inches x 3.5 Inches
Hat:    17 Inch Circumference
            7 Inch Height

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn
I have used:-
80 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in color 1
20 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in color 2
35 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in color 3

5.50mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks

GAUGE – 4.5dc & 2.5 rows measures approx 1 inch using a 4.00mm hook

If you would prefer a shorter version of the scarf i.e. cowl, ch66 (this would give you a length of approx 14 inches)

Scarf – Using color 1 and 5.50mm hook ch204, work 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (203sc)

# 2nd Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch1, skip 1sc, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.

3rd Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1sc in next ch1 space, ch1, skip 1sc, * rpt from * to * to last sc, 1sc in sc. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

Rpt 2nd & 3rd Rows once.

Fasten off. Join in color 3

Rpt 2nd & 3rd Rows Twice.

Rpt 2nd Row.

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

Rpt 3rd & 2nd Rows.

Fasten off. Join in color 1

Rpt 3rd & 2nd Rows. Turn.

15th Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ch1 space and sc to end. Turn.

Change to 4.00mm hook.

Border – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to last sc, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each row end down first side of scarf, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each ch along starting ch edge, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each row end up second side of scarf, 1sc in corner, sl st to first sc. Fasten of.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.

Hat – Made in rounds without turning until the brim.

With 4.00mm hook and color 1, ch6, sl st to first ch to make a ring. (RS) ch3, work 12dc in ring, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (12dc + ch3)

2nd Round – (Inc Round) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 2dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (25dc + ch3)

3rd Round – (Inc Round) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * 1dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1dc in last dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (38dc + ch3)

4th Round – (Inc Round) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * 1dc in each of next 2dc, 2dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, 1dc in each of last 2dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (51dc + ch3)

5th Round – (Inc Round) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * 1dc in next 3dc, 2dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc, 1dc in each of last 3dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (64dc + ch3)

6th Round – (Inc Round) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * 1dc in next 7dc, 2dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 8dc, 1dc in each of 8dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (72dc + ch3)

7th Round – ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on the beginning of row.

Rpt the 7th Round until you have worked 16 rounds in all from the beginning. Turn.

Brim – Change to 5.50mm hook, working in back loop of stitch only for this round, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch1, skip 1dc, 1sc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to first sc. Turn.

Second Row – Working through both loops of stitch from now on, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch1, skip 1sc, 1sc in next ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in color 2

Third Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch1, skip 1sc, 1sc in next ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to first sc. Turn.

Fourth Row – Rpt Third Row.

Fasten off. Join in color 3.

Fifth to Ninth Row – Rpt Third Row.

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

Tenth & Eleventh Rows – Rpt Third Row.

Fasten off. Join in color 1.

Twelfth & Thirteenth Rows. – Rpt Third Row.

Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn, fold brim onto front of hat.
