Hat:      17 Inch Circumference
              7 Inch Height

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn I have used:-
80 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in colour 1
20 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in colour 2
35 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in colour 3

5.50mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks

TENSION – 4.5tr & 2.5 rows measures approx 1 inch using a 4.00mm hook

If you would prefer a shorter version of the scarf i.e. cowl, make 66ch (this would give you a length of approx 14 inches)

Scarf – Using colour 1 and 5.50mm hook make 204ch, work 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (203dc)

# 2nd Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 1ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.

3rd Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1dc into next 1ch space, make 1ch, miss 1dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1dc into dc. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in colour 2.

Rpt 2nd & 3rd Rows once.

Fasten off. Join in colour 3

Rpt 2nd & 3rd Rows Twice.

Rpt 2nd Row.

Fasten off. Join in colour 2.

Rpt 3rd & 2nd Rows.

Fasten off. Join in colour 1

Rpt 3rd & 2nd Rows. Turn.

15th Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each 1ch space and dc to end. Turn.

Change to 4.00mm hook.

Border – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to last dc, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each row end down first side of scarf, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch along starting ch edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each row end up second side of scarf, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.

Hat – Made in rounds without turning until the brim.

With 4.00mm hook and colour 1, make 6ch, ss to first ch to make a ring. (RS) 3ch, work 12tr into ring, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (12tr + 3ch)

2nd Round – (Inc Round) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 2tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (25tr + 3ch)

3rd Round – (Inc Round) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * 1tr into next tr, 2tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr, 1tr into last tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (38tr + 3ch)

4th Round – (Inc Round) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * 1tr into each of next 2tr, 2tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr, 1tr in each of last 2tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (51tr + 3ch)

5th Round – (Inc Round) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * 1tr into next 3tr, 2tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr, 1tr into each of last 3tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (64tr + 3ch)

6th Round – (Inc Round) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * 1tr into next 7tr, 2tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 8tr, 1tr into each of 8tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (72tr + 3ch)

7th Round – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of the 3ch on the beginning of row.

Rpt the 7th Round until you have worked 16 rounds in all from the beginning. Turn.

Brim – Change to 5.50mm hook, working into back loop of stitch only for this round, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 1ch, miss 1tr, 1dc into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc. Turn.

Second Row – Working through both loops of stitch from now on, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 1ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 1ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in colour 2

Third Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 1ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 1ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc. Turn.

Fourth Row – Rpt Third Row.

Fasten off. Join in colour 3.

Fifth to Ninth Row – Rpt Third Row.

Fasten off. Join in colour 2.

Tenth & Eleventh Rows – Rpt Third Row.

Fasten off. Join in colour 1.

Twelfth & Thirteenth Rows. – Rpt Third Row.

Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn, fold brim onto front of hat.

Tip!! – To make the scarf and hat bigger, you can use larger hook sizes and thicker yarn.
