Crochet Interlocking Block Stitch – This stitch has a nice feel and textured finish, because of the way it is crochet over the stitches on the row below it has a thick and warm feel to it.

The materials I used were Stylecraft Special DK yarn, for the first sample I used colors Cream, Wisteria and Fondant, on the second sample I used White, Vintage Peach and Lipstick, on a 4.00mm Clover Hook

Interlocking Block Stitch

You will need different colors of yarn (I have used 3) or you can use up your scraps!

Abbreviations
ch.    Chain
sc.    Single Crochet
dc.    Double Crochet
hdc.  Half Double Crochet

With color 1 make a length of ch’s in multiples of 4 + 2.

Work 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in next ch, * ch2, miss 2ch’s, 1dc in each of next 2ch, rpt from * to * to last ch, 1dc in last ch. Turn. (8, blocks of 2dc + 2, blocks of 3)

Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, ch2, miss 2dc, * working over the ch2 and in the un-worked foundation chains on row below, work 1dc in each of the next two ch’s, (this will enclose the ch2 from row 1), ch2, miss 2dc, * rpt from * to * to ch3 to turn, 1sc in top ch3. Fasten off. Turn.

Join in colour 2

Pattern Row 1 – ch3, * working over the ch2 and in the top of the dc’s from the row below, work 1dc in each of next two dc, ch2, miss 2dc, * rpt from * to * to last ch2 space and sc, work 1dc in each of 2dc on row below, 1dc in sc. Turn.

Pattern Row 2 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, ch2, miss next 2dc, * working over the next ch2 and in the top of the dc’s from two rows below, work 1dc in each of next two dc’s, ch2, miss next 2dc, * rpt from * to * ch3 to turn, 1sc in top of ch3. Fasten off. Turn.

Join in colour 1

Continue rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 alternating colors as you go.

When you have reached the length you require work the following:-

Closing Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * working over the next ch2 and in the top of the dc’s from two rows below, work 1hdc in each of next two dc’s, 1sc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to last ch2 space and sc, work 1hdc in each of the next 2dc on row below, 1sc in sc. Fasten off.

Weave in and trim ends. Don’t forget to:-
