Crochet Mug Cozy Coaster

Check out my free pretty crochet mug cozy coaster design, 2 patterns in one, a

tables and desks, I have made it in a soft 100% cotton yarn, but you can crochet
it in a variegate color worsted weight yarn if you wish.

Abbreviations
RS.      Right Side
sc.       Single Crochet
hdc.    Half Double Crochet
dc.       Double Crochet
rpt.     Repeat
sl st.   Slip Stitch
yo.      Yarn Over

ps.      Puff Stitch
yo, insert in st and pull up loop, (twice) yo, draw through 4 loops, yo pull
through 2 loops.

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

Approx size to fit:    3.5 inch base diameter mug.

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn
For 6 Cozies I have used:-
100 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft 100% Cotton Yarn in color 1
100 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft 100% Cotton Yarn in color 2

OR an equivalent yarn would be:-
3.5oz of Worsted Weight #3 Cotton Yarn in color 1
3.5oz of Worsted Weight #3 Cotton Yarn in Color 2

4.00mm Clover crochet hook, 1 Medium Button

GAUGE – 5hdc and 3 rows measures approx 1 inch square

(RS) ch2, work 9hdc in ring, pull loose yarn to close, sl st to first hdc on
beginning of row. (9hdc)

2nd Row – ch2, 2hdc in base of ch2, 2hdc in each hdc to end, sl st to first
hdc on beginning of row. (18hdc)

3rd Row – ch2, 2hdc in base of ch2, * 1hdc in next hdc, 2hdc in next hdc, *
rpt from * to * to last hdc, 1hdc in last hdc, sl st to first hdc on beginning
of row.  (27hdc)

4th Row – ch2, 2hdc in base of ch2, * 1hdc in each of next 2hdc, 2hdc in
next hdc, * rpt from * to * to last 2hdc, 1hdc in each of last 2hdc, sl st to
first hdc on beginning of row. (36hdc)

5th Row – ch2, 1hdc in base of ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, sl st to first
hdc on beginning of row. Turn.

6th Row – Working in front loop of stitch only, ch1, work 1sc in base of
ch1, 1sc in each hdc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten
off. Turn.

7th Row – Working through both loops of stitch from now on, join in color 2,
ch2, work 1ps (see abbrev) in base of ch2, 1ps in each sc to end, sl st to
first ps on beginning of row. Turn. (36ps)

8th Row – (split for handle) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ps to end.
Do Not sl st to first sc. Fasten off. Turn. (36sc)

9th Row – Join in color 1, ch2, 1ps in base of ch2, 1ps in each sc to last sc,
1hdc in sc. Turn. (35ps + 1hdc)

10th Row – (Strap) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ps to end, ch8
Fasten off. Turn.

11th Row – Join in color 2 to first of the 8ch, ch2, work 1ps in same ch,
1ps in each of next 7ch, 1ps in each sc to last sc, 1hdc in sc. Turn.
(43ps + 1hdc)

12th Row – (Buttonhole Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ps to
last 3sc, ch2, skip 2sc, 1sc in last sc. Fasten off. Turn. (42sc + ch2 space)

13th Row – Join in color 1, ch2, 1ps in base of ch2, 2ps in ch2 space, 1ps
in each sc to last sc, 1hdc in sc. Turn.

14th Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ps to end. Fasten off. Turn.

15th Row – Skip 8sc, join color 2 to next sc, ch2, work 1ps in base of ch2,
1ps in each sc to last sc, 1hdc in sc. Turn. (35ps + 1hdc)

Edging – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 34ps, 3sc in next ps, work
1sc in next row end to the top of the strap, 1sc in each of next 7sc along top
of strap, 3sc in corner, work sc’s evenly in row ends along side of strap, 3sc in
corner, 1sc in each of 7ch along bottom of strap, sc evenly in row ends down
cosy to base of split, sl st in base of split, sc evenly in row ends up to corner,
1sc in corner, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Coaster – Return to loose loops on base of cosy, with top of cozy facing you,
rejoin color 1 to first loose loop, ch1, work 2sc in base of ch1, * 1sc in each of
next 2sc, 2sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 2sc, 1sc in each of last 2sc, sl st
to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (48sc)

Row 2 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning
of row. Turn.

Row 3 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, skip 1sc, 5dc in next sc, * skip 1sc, 1sc in next sc,
skip 1sc, 5dc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
(12, 5dc groups)

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, attach button to cozy to
correspond with buttonhole.
