Crochet Square Doily

I have designed this crochet square doily, as a change to the round shape, it is made in simple all over shells 2 row stitch pattern and edged with picots.

dc.      Double Crochet
tr.       Treble Crochet
rpt.     Repeat
DNT.   Do Not Turn.

Shell.  (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) worked in same space or stitch.

Base of ch. Work into first stitch

3ch counts as first tr

Approx finished size: 12 x 12 Inches

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn
I have used:-
35 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft DK in colour 1
30 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft DK in colour 2

5.50mm Clover Crochet Hook

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

With colour 1 make 41ch loosely, (RS) Work (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into 6th ch from hook, * miss 3ch, (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into next ch * rpt from * to * to last 3ch, miss 2ch, work 1tr into last ch. Turn. (9 shell groups)

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 2tr, work (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) into next 1ch space on shell, 2ch, miss 2tr, work 1dc into space between shells, * rpt from * to * to last shell, 2ch, miss 2tr, work (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) into next 1ch space on shell, 2ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into top of 5ch. Fasten off. Turn.

Change to colour 2.

Pattern Row 1 – 3ch, work (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into each 3ch space to end, 1tr into last dc. Turn.

Pattern Row 2 – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 2tr, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) into next 1ch space of shell, 2ch, miss 2tr, work 1dc into space between shells, * rpt from * to * to last shell, 2ch, miss 2tr, work (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) into next 1ch space on shell, 2ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.

Changing colour after Pattern Row 2, rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 Eight more times. Fasten off.

Join in colour 1 and work Pattern Row 1 once. Turn.

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, make 2ch, * 1dc in 1ch space of shell, make 3ch, * rpt * to * to last shell, 1dc into 1ch space on shell, 2ch, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.

Border – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 2dc into next 2ch space, * 1dc into dc, 3dc into next 3ch space, * rpt from * to * to last (dc, 2ch and dc), 1dc into dc, 2dc into 2ch space, 3dc into last dc, work 32dc evenly into row ends down first side of doily, 3dc into corner, working along starting ch edge work 1dc into each ch to end, 3dc into corner, work 32dc evenly into row ends up second side of doily, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc. DNT.

Picot Edge – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 2dc, * (3ch, ss into 3rd ch from hook), 1dc into each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * around all sides of doily to end, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in all loose ends and trim.

Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch2, skip 2dc, work (1sc, ch3, 1sc) in next ch1 space on shell, ch2, skip 2dc, work 1sc in space between shells, * rpt from * to * to last shell, ch2, skip 2dc, work (1sc, ch3, 1sc) in next ch1 space on shell, ch2, skip 2dc, 1sc in top of 5ch. Fasten off. Turn.

Change to color 2.
