Free Crochet Pattern Christmas Coaster Mug Cozy

RS.    Right Side

ch.    Chain
sc.     Single Crochet
hdc.   Half Double Crochet
dc.     Double Crochet
rpt.    Repeat
sl st.  Slip Stitch

sc group. (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in same stitch or space.

ch3 counts as first dc

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

Approx Finished Size:  3.5 inch base diameter mug.

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn

For 6 Cozies I have used:-
100 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in color 1
Small amounts of Stylecraft Special DK in color 2 & 3

4.00mm Clover Crochet Hook, medium novelty button

GAUGE – 5dc & 2.5 rows measures approx 1 inch

With color 1, make Magic Circle, (RS) ch3, 12dc in ring, pull loose yarn to close, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (12dc + ch3) 

2nd Row – ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 2dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (25dc + ch3)

3rd Row – ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * 1dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1dc in last dc, sl st to top of ch3 on the beginning of row.  (38dc + ch3)

4th Row – ch2, 1hdc in base of ch2, * 1hdc in each of next 2dc, 2hdc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, 1hdc in each of last 2dc, sl st to top of ch2 on beginning of row. (51hdc + ch2)

Turn.

5th Row – Working in front loop of stitch only, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each hdc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (52sc)

* The back loops of the stitches on the 5th Row will be referred to as loose loops when you work the coaster.

6th Row – Working through both loops of stitch from now on, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip 1sc, 2sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last sc, skip sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.

7th Row – Rpt 6th Row to end, sl st to first sc. Turn.

8th Row – (split for handle) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip 1sc, 2sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 2sc, skip 1sc, 1sc in last sc, Do Not sl st to first sc. Turn.

9th Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip 1sc, 2sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

10th & 11th Rows – Rpt 9th Row. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in color 3.

12th & 13th Rows – Rpt 9th Row. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

14th & 15th Rows – Rpt 9th Row. Turn.

Fasten off Join in color 1.

16 to 19th Rows – Rpt 9th Row. Turn.

20th Row – ch20, sl st to base of 20ch, rpt 9th Row.

Fasten off.

Coaster – Return to loose loops on base of cosy, * with top of cozy facing you, rejoin color 1 to first loose loop, ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * 1dc in each of next 2 loops, 2dc in next loop, * rpt from * to * to last 2 loops, 1dc in each of last 2 loops, sl st to the top of ch3 on the beginning of row. Turn. (67dc + ch3)

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

Row 2 – ch1, 2sc in base of ch1, * 1sc in each of next 3dc, 2sc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc, work 1sc in each sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (85sc)

Fasten off. Join in color 3.

Row 3 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

Row 4 – ch1, * (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in base of ch1, skip 2sc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. (28sc groups)

Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, attach novelty button to cozy to correspond with buttonhole loop and fasten through.
