Puff Stitch Dishcloth

A soft cotton puff stitch dishcloth that some may think is too pretty to wash dishes with, so it can also be used as a washcloth the choice is yours.

It’s a good project for beginners to practice with, learn how to to do a puff stitch and skip stitches, for the more experienced crocheters it is a pattern you can work up quickly to give for gifts etc.

sl st.  Slip Stitch
yo.     Yarn Over

ps.      Puff Stitch
* yo, insert in stitch and pull up loop, *  rpt from * to * twice, yo, pull through 6 loops, yo, pull through 2 loops.

ps Group.     (1ps, ch1, 1ps)

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

ch3 counts as first dc

Finished size approx: 10.5 Inches x 11 inches

I have used:-
60 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft DK

OR an equivalent yarn would be:-
2.15oz of Worsted Weight #3 Cotton Yarn

5.00mm crochet hook


You can work the last two rows of the border in a contrast color if you wish.

Made in multiples of 3 + 1

ch37, work (1ps, ch1, 1ps) in 5th ch from hook, * skip 2ch, (1ps, ch1, 1ps) in next ch, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch, skip 1ch, 1dc in last ch. Turn. (see abbrev for ps instructions)  (11, ch1 spaces)

Row 2 – ch3, (1ps, ch1, 1ps) in each ch1 space to end, 1dc in top of 4ch. Turn.

Row 3 – ch3, (1ps, ch1, 1ps) in each ch1 space to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.

Rpt Row 3 until 15 rows have been worked in all. Turn.


Border – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, skip 1ps, 1sc in each ch1 space and ps to last ps and ch3 to turn with, skip ps, 3sc in top of ch3, work 31sc evenly in row ends down first side of cloth, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each ch along starting ch edge to last ch and ch3 to turn with, skip ch1, 3sc in base of the ch3, work 31sc evenly in row ends up second side of cloth, 1sc in base of ch1, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.

Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc around cloth to end, working 3sc in corners, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.

Next Row – ch1, (1sc, ch3, 1sc) in base of ch1, * skip 2sc, (1sc, ch3, 1sc) in next sc, * rpt from * to * around cloth to end, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.
