Slouchy Hat

A warm slouchy hat, worked from the brim to the crown in rounds, this eliminates sewing seams and gives a nice finish, it’s an easy stitch to memorize and can be made in a day, I have used buttons to decorate the brim, but this is optional.

dc2tog.
Leaving last loop of each dc on hook, work 2dc in same space, yo and pull through 3 loops.

dec 1sc over next two dc2tog
Pull up a loop from each of next 2 stitches, yo and pull through 3 loops.

dc2tog over next two dc2tog
Leaving last loop of each dc on hook, work 1dc in each of next 2, dc2tog, yo and pull through 3 loops.

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

Size to fit approx:  Adult head (22 Inches circumference)

Materials
I have used:-
70 grams of King Cole Big Value DK in color 1
20 grams of King Cole Big Value DK in color 2

An equivalent yarn would be a light worsted #3

5.00mm Clover crochet hook, 2 medium buttons

GAUGE – 4sc & 5 rows measures approx 1 inch

Brim – With color 1 ch9, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (8sc)

Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn.

Rpt last row until you have worked 98 rows in all.

Fold brim in half length ways and sl st the cast on edge and last row worked together to make a round. DNT.

Working in row ends around the WS side of the brim ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each row end to end, sl st to first sc on the beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (98sc)

Hat Top – With color 2 ch3, (RS) 1dc in base of ch3, * ch1, skip 1sc, dc2tog (see abbrev) in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last sc, ch1, skip sc and ch3 to turn with, sl st to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (49, dc2tog, plus 49, ch1 spaces)

Pattern Row – sl st to first ch1 space, ch3, 1dc in same ch1 space, * ch1, skip dc2tog, work dc2tog in next ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to last dc2tog, ch1, skip dc2tog and ch3 to turn with, sl st to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Row until 15, dc2tog rows have been worked from Brim.

Row 16 – (Dec) ch3, work dc2tog in each ch1 space to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (do NOT ch1 between dc2tog) Turn. (49dc2tog)

Row 17 – (Dec) ch3, * work dc2tog over the next two, dc2tog, (see abbrev) * rpt from * to * to last dc2tog, hdc in dc2tog, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn. (24, dc2tog)

Row 18 – (Dec) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * dec 1sc over next two, dc2tog, (see abbrev) * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to first sc on the beginning of row. (12sc)

Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1 more row of 1sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off leaving a length of yarn to gather top with.

Finishing – Thread loose length of yarn evenly through sc and gather the top, weave in and trim any loose ends of yarn, decorate brim with wooded or decorative buttons.
