A trinket bowl that has endless uses, make it to put all your small bits and pieces in i.e. jewellery and keepsakes, hairbands, clips and slides. It is an attractive little piece to keep on your dressing table, ideal for the nursery to hold cotton wool balls etc.

Finished size approx:  5.5 Diameter

Materials
I have used:-
35 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in color 1
Small amount of Stylecraft Special DK in color 2

An equivalent yarn would be a light worsted #3.

Small amount of starch or stiffener for sides of bowl.

4.00mm & 3.50mm Clover crochet hooks, large button

Worked in rounds without turning throughout

Trinket Bowl Base – With 4.00mm hook and color 1 ch6, sl st to first ch to form a ring, ch3, (RS) work 13dc in ring, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. (13dc + ch3)

2nd Row – (Inc Row) ch3, * 1dc in base of ch3, 2dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (27dc + ch3)

3rd Row – (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * 1dc in next in dc, 2dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to the top of ch3 on the beginning of row. (41dc + ch3)

4th Row – (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to top of ch3. (55dc + ch3)

5th Row – (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to top of ch3. (69dc + ch3)

Change to 3.50mm hook.

6th Row – Working in back of stitch for this row ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row.

7th to 10th Row – Working through both loops work ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Fasten off.

With color 2 and 4.00mm hook, working in the loose loops around bottom of base, (created on the 6th Row) work ch3, 3dc in base of ch3, * skip 2 loops, (sl st, ch3, 3dc) in next loop * rpt from * to * to last 2 loops, skip both loops, sl st to base of ch3 on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Trinket Bowl Lid – Using 4.00mm hook and color 2 work same as base to end of 1st Row.

Row 2 – (Inc Row) ch4, * (1dc, ch1) in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to 3rd of ch4 on beginning of row. (14, ch1 spaces)

Row 3 – (Inc Row) ch3, * 2dc in next ch1 space, 1dc in dc, * rpt from * to * to last ch1 space, 2dc in last ch1 space, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Fasten off. (41dc + ch3)

Row 4 – (Inc Row) Join in color 1, ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to top of ch3 on
beginning of row.

Row 5 – (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row.

Change to 3.50mm hook.

Row 6 – Working in back loop of stitch only ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row.

Row 7 – Working through both loops work ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Fasten off.

With top of basket lid facing you, rejoin color 2 to top of ch3 on loose loops, (created on Row 6) work ch3, 3dc in base of ch3, * skip 2dc, (sl st, ch3, 3dc) in next dc * rpt from * to * to last 2 loops, skip both loops, sl st to base of ch3 on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Covered Button – With 3.50mm hook, ch7, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (6sc)

Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1 work 1sc in each sc to end. Turn.

Rpt last row until 5 rows have been worked in all, leave a length of yarn to gather and sew on to lid with. Fasten off.

Thread yarn evenly all around through sc, place plain large button in the center and gather around it tightly, secure so that button cannot break free.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off loose ends of yarn, attach button over center hole on lid, spray sides with stiffener.
