Woodland Baby Coat

The woodland baby coat  – This newborn coat can be paired up with the woodland booties and beanie hat, (also featured on my blog).

This time I have used the colors the opposite way round, this lovely woodland collection now has three items in it, which can when put together make a nice set for your own baby or to give as a gift to friends and family.

Under arm seam approx 3.5 Inches

Materials
I have used:-
80 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in Color 1
20 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in Color 2

OR an equivalent yarn i.e
2.85oz of Worsted Weight #3 in Color 1
0.75oz of Worsted Weight #3 in Color 2
a suggested yarn for this would be Red Heart Baby Hugs Yarn

4.00mm crochet hook, 3 buttons

GAUGE – 4dc and 2.5 rows measures approx 1 Inch

COAT – Worked in one piece starting with Yoke. – With color 1 ch49, (RS) 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (46dc + ch3)

Row 2 – (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc in top of ch3. Turn. (57dc + ch3)

Row 3 – ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.

Row 4 – (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in next dc * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc * rpt from * to * to last dc and ch3 to turn with, 2dc in dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (76dc + ch3)

Row 5 – Rpt Row 3. Turn.

Row 6 – (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in next 2dc * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc in top of ch3. Turn. (101dc + ch3)

Row 7 – Rpt Row 3. Turn.

Row 8 – (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in next 2dc * rpt from * to * to end working last dc in top of ch3. Turn. (134dc + ch3)

Row 9 (Divide for armholes) – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 22dc, skip 22dc, 1sc in each of next 45dc, skip 22dc, 1sc in each of next 22dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (91sc)

Commence Skirt – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1dc in next sc, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.

Pattern Row 1 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each st to end. Turn.

Pattern Row 2 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1dc in next sc, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 eight more times or until work measures approx 8.25 from shoulder. Fasten off.

Join in color 2 and rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 – (Inc) With RS facing join color 1 to dc on base of armhole (where you divided) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 22dc, work 1sc in dc at base of armhole on opposite side, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (24sc)

Rpt Pattern Row 2 from skirt.

Slip stitching to the first sc and turning at the end of each row, rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 seven times or until work measures approx 3.25 Inches along under arm seam. Fasten off.

Join in color 2 and rpt Pattern rows 1 & 2 once slip stitching and turning at the end of row. Fasten off.

Button/Buttonhole Bands – With RS facing rejoin color 1 to lower edge of right hand side front edge, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 37 more sc evenly in row ends along to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each ch around neck, 3sc in corner, 38sc evenly in row ends down second front edge. Turn.

Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 39sc. Turn. (40sc)

Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc to end. Fasten off.

Buttonhole Row – Return to first front edge, WS facing, starting from the neck and working downwards, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 6sc, * rpt from * to * once, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of the remaining sc. Turn. (3 buttonholes made)

Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc and ch2 space up front edge to end. Fasten off. (40sc)

Chain Tie – With color 2 ch130. Fasten off.

Make 2 small pom-poms in color 2, I used Clover Pom-Pom maker 20.

Finishing – Weave in all loose ends and trim, thread chain tie through alternate dc’s on last row of yoke, attach a pom-pom to each end and tie in a bow.
