tr4tog. Leaving last loop of each tr on hook work 4tr into next stitch, yrh and pull through all loops.

3ch counts as first tr

30 grams of Patons 100% cotton 4ply in Colour 2
4ply yarn is 5ply in Australia

3.50mm crochet hook

Make 2 Pieces the Same – Using colour 1 make magic circle, work 3ch, 14tr into circle, pull loose thread to close, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.

Row 2 – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, make 2ch, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (15, 2ch spaces)

Row 3 – Join in colour 2 to first 2ch space with a ss, make 3ch, tr2tog (see abbrev) into same 2ch space, * make 2ch, miss dc, tr3tog (see abbrev) into next 2ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, make 2ch, ss to first tr2tog on beginning of row. Fasten off. DNT. (15, tr3tog)

Row 4 – ss colour 1, to top of tr2tog, make 3ch, work 3tr into next 2ch space, * 1tr into top of tr3tog, 3tr into next 2ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (59tr + 3ch)

Row 5 – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 1tr, 1dc into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr, make 2ch, miss tr, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (30, 2ch spaces)

Row 6 – Rpt Row 3. (30, tr3tog)

Row 7 – ss colour 1, to top of tr2tog, make 3ch, work * 2tr into next 2ch space, 1tr into top of tr3tog, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch space, work 2tr into space, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (89tr + 3ch)

Row 8 – Rpt Row 5. (45, 2ch spaces)

Row 9 – ss colour 2 to first 2ch space, make 3ch, tr3tog into same 2ch space, * make 2ch, miss dc, tr4tog into next 2ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, make 2ch, ss to first tr3tog. Fasten off. DNT. (45, tr3tog)

Row 10 – Work same as Row 7, working into tr4tog not tr3tog. Turn. (134tr + 3ch)

Row 11 – Rpt Row 5 until last 2tr, make 2ch, miss 1tr, 1dc into last tr, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (67, 2ch spaces)

Row 12 – Rpt Row 9. Fasten off. (67, tr4tog)

Weave in and trim off loose ends.

Edging & Sealing Both Sides Together – With RS facing, place WS of both pieces together, ss colour 1 through both sides of tr3tog, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, working through back and front of hot mat, work 2dc into each 2ch space and 1dc into top of each tr4tog to end, ss to first dc. DNT. (200dc)

Next Row – 1ch, (1dc, 2ch,1dc) into base of 1ch, * miss 1dc, (1dc, 2ch,1dc) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, miss dc, ss to first dc. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave remainder of loose ends and trim.
