I have used:-
70 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in colour 1
30 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in colour 2
5.00mm & 4.00mm Clover Crochet Hook
TENSION – 1.5 pattern rpt’s & 1.5 rows measures approx 1 inch on a 5.00mm hook

Make 2 pieces the same.
Using 5.00mm hook and colour 1 make 70ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, * make 3ch, miss 3ch, 1dc into next ch * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (18dc)
Next Row – 3ch, (RS) 1tr into base of 3ch, * 1dc into 3ch space, 3tr into dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3ch space and dc, 1dc into 3ch space, 2tr into last dc. Turn. (16, 3tr groups + 2 halves)
Row 1 – 1ch, 1dc into base of ch, * make 3ch, miss (1tr, 1dc, 1tr), work 1dc into centre tr of 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to last (tr, dc, tr and 3tch), make 3ch, miss (1tr, 1dc, 1tr), work 1dc into top of 3tch. Turn.
Row 2 – 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * 1dc into 3ch space, 3tr into dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3ch space and dc, 1dc into 3ch space, 2tr into last dc. Turn.
Rpt Rows 1 & 2 until 18 complete patterns have been worked in all or work measures approx 11.5 inches from beginning. Turn.
Rpt Row 1. Turn. Change to 4.00mm hook.
Border – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 3dc into each 3ch space and 1dc into each dc along to end, 3dc into corner, work 50dc evenly into row ends down first side of mat, 3dc into corner, work 3dc into each 3ch space and 1dc into each dc along starting chain edge, 3dc into corner, work 50dc evenly into row ends up second side of mat, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn.
Join in colour 2.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc and 3dc into each of 3 corners around mat to end, 1dc into last corner, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.
Rpt last row twice. Fasten off.
Join in colour 1.
Rpt last row twice. Fasten off.
Making sure the stitch pattern is going the same way, place WS of both pieces together, working on the RS and starting on a corner work through the double layers, make 1ch, 1dc into each dc around, working 3dc into the corners, sl st to first dc on beginning of row. DNT.
Pretty Edge – 1ch, work (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into base of 1ch, * miss 1dc, work (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into next dc, * rpt from * to * around to last dc, miss dc, ss to first dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row.
Fasten off.
Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.
