It’s an easy to crochet pattern that lets you practice your crochet skills and create beautiful mats at the same time. You could use them when dining al fresco too.

5.00mm & 4.00mm Clover crochet hooks

TENSION – 4dc and 4 rows of pattern measures approx 1 Inch

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Using colour 1 and 5.00mm hook, make 61ch, work 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (60dc)

Pattern Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1dc, 2dc into next dc * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1dc into dc. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Row in colour sequence as follows:-

Five more times in colour 1
Four more times in colour 2. Fasten off.
Twice more times in colour 1. Fasten off.
Four more times in colour 2. Fasten off.
Eighteen more times in colour 1. Fasten off.
Four more times in colour 2. Fasten off.
Twice in colour 1. Fasten off.
Four more times in colour 2. Fasten off.
Six more times in colour 1. Turn.

Starting 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off. Turn.

Change to 4.00mm hook.

Edging – Join in colour 2, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to last dc, 3dc into last dc, work 1dc into each row end down first side of placemat, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch along cast on edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each row end up second side of place mat, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2 more rows of 1dc into each dc around all four sides to end, working 3dc into corners and ss to first dc on the end of each row. Turn.

Work one row of crab stitch (see abbrev) around all four sides. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim.
