Base of ch. Work in first stitch
ch3 counts as first dc
Finished size approx: 19″ x 13.5 Inches
Materials
I have used:-
80 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft DK in color 1
60 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft DK in color 2
OR an equivalent yarn would be:-
2.85oz of Worsted Weight #3 cotton yarn in color 1
2.15oz of Worsted Weight #3 cotton yarn in color 2

With color 1 ch82, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, (RS) 1dc in next ch, * ch2, skip 2ch, 1dc in each of next 2ch, rpt from * to * to last ch, 1dc in last ch. Turn. (18, blocks of 2dc + 2, blocks of 3)
Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, ch2, skip 2dc, * working over the ch2 work 1dc in each of the next two foundation ch’s (see pic), ch2, skip 2dc, * rpt from * to * to ch3 to turn, 1sc in top ch3. Fasten off. Turn.
Join in color 2.
1st Pattern Row – ch3, * working over the ch2, work 1dc in each of next two dc on the row below, ch2, skip 2dc, * rpt from * to * to last ch2 space and sc, working over the ch2, work 1dc in each of 2dc on row below, 1dc in sc. Turn.
2nd Pattern Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, ch2, skip next 2dc, * working over the next ch2 work 1dc in each of next two dc on the row below, ch2, skip next 2dc, * rpt from * to * ch3 to turn, 1sc in top of ch3. Fasten off. Turn.
Rpt 1st & 2nd Pattern Rows alternating colors 1 & 2 until 42 rows have been worked in all or work measures approx 13.3 inches from beginning. Turn.
Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * working over the ch2, work 1hdc in each of next two dc on the row below, 1sc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to last ch2 space and sc, working over the ch2, work 1hdc in each of 2dc on row below, 3sc in sc. DNT.
Edging – Work 41sc evenly down first side of mat, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each ch along the cast on edge, 3sc in corner, 41sc evenly along second side of mat, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each hdc and sc to corner, sl st to centre sc. Fasten off.
Work 2 more rows of sc along the both short sides of mat to balance colors.
Finishing – Weave in all loose ends of yarn and trim.
