For best results for this sweet mat, if you are intending to put hot plates and dishes on it I recommend using 100% soft cotton double knitting (light worsted) yarn.

3ch counts as first tr.
Approx Finished Size: 9.5 inches Diameter
Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-
20 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft DK in colour 1
15 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft yarn in colour 2
TENSION – 4tr & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

Worked in rounds without turning throughout.
With colour 1 make 6ch, ss to first ch to form a ring, 1ch, (RS) work 12dc into ring, ss to first dc on beginning of round. (12dc)
2nd Round – 4ch, work 2tr into each dc to end. (24tr + 3ch)
3rd Round – 4ch, * (1tr, 1ch) into each dc to end, ss to 3rd of 4ch on beginning of round. (25, 1ch spaces)
4th Round – 3ch, 1tr into each 1ch space and tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round. (49tr + 3ch)
Fasten off. Join in colour 2.
5th Round – 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch. Fasten off. (74tr + 3ch)
6th Round – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round.
7th Round – 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch. (99tr + 3ch)
Fasten off. Join in colour 1.
8th Round – Rpt 6th Round.
9th Round – 3ch, 2tr into base of 3ch,* miss 1tr, 1dc into next tr, miss 1tr, 5tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr, miss 1tr, 1dc into next tr, miss 1tr, 2tr into base of 3ch, ss to top of 3ch. Fasten off. (25, 5tr groups)
Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.
