Coastal wave baby afghan, I named this free crochet pattern because of its wavy design, made using easy single and double crochet stitches, I hope you enjoy making it.

The blanket has been crochet using a worsted weight #4 yarn (Aran for UK users), it’s perfect to swaddle your little one in or make for a gift.

I have used a 6.00mm hook for the main part of this coastal wave baby afghan and a 5.50mm hook for the border in colours white, fondant and wisteria.

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

200 grams of Stylecraft Special Aran yarn in colour 1
100 grams of Stylecraft Special Aran yarn in each of the colours 2 & 3

6.00mm crochet hook for main part, 6.50mm for ss edge (optional) & 5.50mm for border

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Made in multiples of 10 + 6

With colour 1 and 6.00mm hook, make 96ch, work 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, (RS) 1dc into each of next 4ch, * work 1tr into each of next 5ch, work 1dc into each of next 5ch, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.

2nd Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 4dc, * 1tr into each of next 5tr, 1dc into each of next 5dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. Fasten off.

# # Join in colour 2.

3rd Row – Working through BLO make 2ch, work 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each of next 4dc, * 1dc into each of next 5tr, 1tr into each of next 5dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.

4th Row – Working through both loops make 2ch, work 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each of next 4tr, * 1dc into each of next 5dc, 1tr into each of next 5tr, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. Fasten off.

Join in colour 1.

Join in colour 3.

Join in colour 1.

Rpt from # # to # # until 72 rows have been worked from beginning.

Join in colour 2 and work 3rd & 4th Rows, change to colour 1 and work 5th & 6th Rows. Fasten off.

(optional) To make a neat edge

To make a neater edge for the side border, use a 6.50mm hook and with RS facing and using colour 1, work 115 ss evenly into rows ends along each side of the blanket. Fasten off.

Change to 5.50mm hook.

Side Border x 2

First Row – Using colour 1 with RS facing and working from starting chain up, make 1ch, work 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 4st, * 1tr into each of next 5st, 1dc into each of next 5st, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.

Second Row – 1ch, work 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 4tr, * 1tr into each of next 5dc, 1dc into each of next 5dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.
