Large Granny Square Blanket

Large granny square blanket, easy one for beginners or the more experienced, it makes a beautiful baby blanket when crocheted in pastel colours, make for gifts or your own baby. It’s also an ideal size for wheelchair users etc. Hope you enjoy this free crochet pattern.

I have used a worsted weight #4 yarn (Aran for UK users) and a 5.50mm crochet hook size.

Base of ch. Work into first stitch

3ch counts as first tr

Approx Finished Size:   28 Inches x 28 Inches

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

Approx 2-3 balls of King Cole Comfort Aran yarn in each of the colours 1, 2 & 3

5.50mm crochet hook

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Work extra rows to make the blanket bigger.

With colour 1 make 4ch, ss to first ch to form a ring, work (3ch, 2tr into ring), make 2ch, * work 3tr into ring, make 2ch, * rpt from * to * twice, ss to top of 3tch on beginning of row. Turn. (4, 3tr groups)

2nd Row – ss to first 2ch space, make 3ch, work 2tr, 2ch, 3tr into same 2ch space, * miss 3tr, work (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into next 2ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, miss 3tr, ss to top of 3tch on beginning of row. Turn.

3rd Row – 3ch, work 2tr into the first space at the base of 3ch, * miss 3tr, work (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into next 2ch space, miss 3tr, work 3tr into next space, * rpt from * to * to last corner, work (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into 2ch space on corner, miss 3tr, ss to top of 3tch on beginning of row. Turn.

4th Row – 3ch, work 2tr into the first space at the base of 3ch, * miss 3tr, work (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into next 2ch space, work 3tr into next two spaces between 3tr groups, * rpt from * to * to last corner plus space and 2tr, miss 3tr, work (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into next 2ch space on corner, 3tr into next space, miss 2tr, ss to top of 3tch on beginning of row. Turn.

For the remaining rows of this pattern continue in the same way as the 4th Row, you will work 3tr into all spaces between the corners and work (3tr, 2ch, 3tr) into all the 2ch space on the corners.

Work in colour sequence as follows:-

# Twice in colour 2, four times in colour 3, twice in colour 2, four times in colour 1 #

Rpt from # to # once, then once in colour 2. Turn.

Border – Working 3dc into each of the 2ch spaces on the four corners, start with 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, work 1dc into each tr to end, ss to first dc on the beginning of row. Turn.

Second Row – 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, 1dc into each of next 41dc, miss 1dc, work 2tr, 2ch, 2tr into next dc, miss 1dc, work 1dc into next dc, miss 1dc, work 2tr, 2ch, 2tr into next dc, * miss 1dc, work 1dc into next dc, miss 1dc, work 2tr, 2ch, 2tr into next dc, miss 1dc, work 1dc into each of next 79dc, miss 1dc, work 2tr, 2ch, 2tr into next dc, miss 1dc, work 1dc into next dc, miss 1dc, work 2tr, 2ch, 2tr into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 43dc, miss 1dc, work 1dc into next dc, miss 1dc, work 2tr, 2ch, 2tr into next dc, miss 1dc, work 1dc into each of the remaining dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim all loose ends of yarn.
