Crochet Square Hat uk

I hope you enjoy this cute adult crochet square hat uk format, it is a fun and stylish hat that can be made in one or two colours and with or without pom-poms.

I have used Piggyback Stitch for the top part of the hat and back loop single crochet for the brim.

Abbreviations

Base of ch. Work into first stitch

Size to Fit:     Adult Head

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used:-
65 grams of King Cole Big Value DK Yarn in colour 1
30 grams of King Cole Big Value DK Yarn in colour 2

5.50mm & 6.00mm Clover Crochet Hooks

TENSION – 5dc & 4 rows measures approx 1 inch

Brim – Using 5.50mm hook and colour 1 make 9ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. (8dc)

2nd Row – Working into BLO (see abbrev) make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.

Rpt 2nd Row until you have worked 80 rows in all.

Change to 6.00mm hook, making sure you don’t twist the brim ss the starting ch edge and the last row worked together to make a round.

Turn work so as the ss seam is on the WS.

Top
Worked in rounds without turning throughout.

First Round – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each row end to end, ss to first dc on beginning of round. (80dc)

Fasten off.

Join in colour 2.

Second Round – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 2dc, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, make 2ch, miss dc, ss to first dc on beginning of round.

Third Round – 3ch, 2tr into base of 3ch, * miss 2ch, 3tr into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, miss 2ch, ss to top of 3tch on beginning of row.

Fourth Round – ss to first tr, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr, make 2ch, miss tr, ss to first dc on beginning of round.

Fifth Round – 3ch, 2tr into base of 3ch, * miss 2ch, 3tr into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, miss 2ch, ss to top of 3tch on beginning of row.

Fasten off.

Rpt Fourth & Fifth Rounds in colour sequence as follows:-

Twice in colour 1
Twice in colour 2
Twice in colour 1

Fasten off.

Make 2 pom-poms in colour 1, I used Clover pom-pom maker number 65

Finishing – With WS facing place seam of hat to center.

ss open top to close.

Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn. Turn through to RS.

Attach a pom-pom to each top corner, wear hat with seam at the back.
