Crochet Toddler Mitts

A quick to make pair of crochet toddler mitts, made in just a simple sc stitch, the pattern is written for one color, but you can use more if you wish ie change color for the cuff and thumb.

Pull up loop from each of next 2sc, yo, pull through all loops on hook

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

Approx Size to Fit:  2-3 years

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn I have used:-
30 grams of Paintbox Simple DK

OR an equivalent yarn would be:-
1.05oz of Worsted Weight #3

4.00mm Clover Crochet Hook

GAUGE – 5sc & 6 rows measures approx 1 inch

Make 2 mitts the same.

Starting with the ribbed cuff – ch11, work 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (10sc)

Next Row – Working in blo, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn.

Rpt last row until 25 rows have been worked in all.

Fold work in half (from bottom to top) so that the short sides of both ends are lined up, sl st through both sides of work to make a round.

Turn your work on to the side so you are working in the row ends, ch1, work 1sc in each of next 25 row ends to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (25sc)

Row 2 – (Inc Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 10sc, 2sc in next sc, 1sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc, 1sc in each of next 11sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (27sc)

Row 3 – (Inc Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 10sc, 2sc in next sc, 1sc in each of next 3sc, 2sc in next sc, 1sc in each of next 11sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (29sc)

Row 4 – (Inc Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 10sc, 2sc in next sc, 1sc in each of next 5sc, 2sc in next sc, 1sc in each of next 11sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (31sc)

Row 5 – (Inc Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 10sc, 2sc in next sc, 1sc in each of next 7sc, 2sc in next sc, 1sc in each of next 11sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (33sc)

Row 6 – (Inc Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 10sc, 2sc in next sc, 1sc in each of next 9sc, 2sc in next sc, 1sc in each of next 11sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (35sc)

Row 7 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 12sc, skip next 9sc, (thumb) 1sc in each of next 13sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row (26sc)

Slip stitching and turning at the end of each row, work 6 more rows of 1sc in each sc on these 26sc.

Row 14 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, dec 1sc (see abbrev) over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 7sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 2sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 7sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in last sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (22sc)

Row 15 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 5sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 2sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 5sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in last sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. (18sc) Turn.

Row 16 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 3sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 2sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 3sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in last sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. (14sc) Turn.

Row 17 – ch1, dec 1sc over next 2sc, (7 times) sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off leaving enough yarn to gather top of mitt. (7sc)

Thumb Rejoin yarn to the first of the 9sc you skipped earlier, ch1, work 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 8sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.

Slip stitching and turning at the end of each row, work 6 more rows of 1sc in each sc on these 9sc. Fasten off leaving enough yarn to gather top of thumb.

Finishing – Gather top of thumb and mitt, weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim off. Turn through to right side.
