Crochet Wattle Beanie Hat

Made with Paintbox Yarns Simple Aran

The hat is made with a double/single crochet brim and a wattle textured stitch body. It is one of my best loved designs to make.

You may have already made it in Caron Simple Soft yarn when I first posted the wattle crochet hat, I have really been wanting to give it a try with a thicker yarn but using the same size hook sizes to see the results and it came out great.

I made a pom-pom with clover pom-pom maker number 65 in the same colour as the brim to finish it off, but you can if you want to save time attach a faux fur one.

Using Paintbox Yarns Simple Aran in colours washed teal (231) and light caramel (208) which I found a lovely easy yarn to work with, it’s an acrylic yarn and comes in 100 gram balls, there are over 60 beautiful colours to choose from and to coordinate with.

Overall this yarn is a good buy, it’s reasonably priced, soft and ideal for many other projects too, including blankets and baby coats, it does not split when you are working with it and looks and feels nice when finished!

Because it was a thicker yarn than the original, I worked 86dc rows for the brim in colour 1, then I change to colour 2 for the textured rows of the body and because I had crochet less rows on my brim, I had 29 groups when I started the second row of the body of the hat, I worked 28 rows before the top shaping and decreasing.

I hope you try this version of the crochet wattle beanie hat pattern in the Paintbox Yarns Simple Aran and let me know what you think.

I would love you try some more of my hat patterns with this yarn. Here are a few that popped into my head.
