Double Sided Crochet Potholder

This easy-to-make double sided crochet potholder is a free crochet pattern thick enough to protect your work tops, tables and hands from hot dishes.

A practical design that is pretty and will last for ages, they will also make lovely gifts, you can never have too many, friends and family will love them. I used King Cole Cottonsoft Double Knitting yarn (worsted #3) for the sample.

Abbreviations
WS.    Wrong Side

RS.     Right Side
ch.     Chain
sc.      Single Crochet

ch3 counts as first dc

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

Approx Finished Size:  13 Inch Diameter

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn
I have used:-
60 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft DK yarn in each of colors 1 & 2

OR
2.2oz of Worsted Weight #3 Cotton Yarn in each of the colors 1 & 2

4.50mm Clover Crochet Hook

GAUGE – 4dc & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

Make 2 pieces the same.

Worked in rounds without turning throughout.

Using color 1 make a magic circle, ch3 15dc in ring, pull loose thread to close ring, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row.

2nd Row – ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 2dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (31dc + ch3)

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

3rd Row – ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * ch1, skip 1dc, 2dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, ch1, skip 1dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (16, 2dc groups)

4th Row – (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in next dc, * ch1, skip ch1, 2dc in next dc, 1dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last ch1 space, ch1, skip ch1, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row.

5th Row – (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in each dc to next ch1 space, * ch1, skip ch1, 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each dc to next ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to last ch1 space, ch1, skip ch1, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row.

Fasten off.

Rpt 5th Row in color sequence as follows:-

Three times in color 1
Three times in color 2.

Fasten off.

Joining Border & Loop – Place WS of both of the pieces together, working on RS join color 1 to a ch1 space, work (1sc, ch3, 1sc) in same space, # * skip 1dc, (1sc, ch3, 1sc) in next dc, * rpt from * to * to next ch1 space, (1sc, ch3, 1sc) in ch1 space, # rpt from # to # to to last dc, work 1sc, 15ch, 1sc) in dc. Turn.

ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 20sc in 15ch space, 1sc in last sc turn, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Finishing – Tack back of loop to sc, weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn.
