Four Color Baby Blanket – When there is a new baby on the way you want a crochet project that is versatile and easy to make, this blanket is ideal, made in four colors but you can make it in as many or as few colors as you want.

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

250 grams of King Cole Big Value Baby DK yarn in colour white
60 grams of King Cole Big Value Baby DK in each of the 3 contrast colours

5.00mm crochet hook

TENSION – 4dc and 6 rows of dc measures approx 1 inch

If you wish to make the blanket bigger you can add multiples of 6 to your beginning chain and more rows.

With contrast colour 1 make 108ch loosely, (RS) 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (107dc)

2nd Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, make 1ch, miss 1dc, work ps group (see abbrev) into next dc, * 1ch, miss 2dc, 1dc into next dc, 1ch, miss 2dc, ps group into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, make 1ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn. (18, ps groups)

Fasten off. Join in white colour.

3rd Row – 4ch, (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into 1ch space on ps group, * 1ch, 1vst (see abbrev) into next dc, 1ch, (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into 1ch space on ps group, * rpt from * to * to last dc, make 1ch, work 1tr into dc. Turn.

4th Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, make 1ch, ps group into next 2ch space, * 1ch, 1dc into vst, 1ch, ps group into 2ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, make 1ch, 1dc into 3rd of 4ch. Turn.

Repeat 3rd and 4th Rows once each in white colour.

Fasten off. Join in contrast colour 2.

Rpt 3rd and 4th Rows changing colour every four rows, working other contrast colours and white colour yarn alternately until 70 rows have been worked in all or work measures approx 27.5 inches from beginning. Turn.

Rpt 3rd and 4th Rows once each in contrast colour 1. Turn.

Continue with contrast colour 1, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1dc into each of next (2ps, 1ch space and 2ps), 1tr into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1tr into last dc. DNT. (110 Stitches)

# # Working into row ends down the side of the blanket, start with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 109 more dc evenly into row ends to next corner. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to the corner.

Fasten off. # #

Rpt from # # to # # on second side of blanket.

Border – Starting on a corner with white colour yarn, work five rows of 1dc into each dc, slip stitching and turning at the end of each row around blanket to end, work 3dc into each of the corners. Turn.

Next Row – ss across 3dc, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, miss 1dc, * 3ps’s into next dc, miss 1dc, 1dc into next dc, miss 1dc, * rpt from * to * around all four sides of blanket, working (2ps, 2ch, 2ps) into each of the corners, ss to first dc on beginning of row.

Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn.
