Classic Bear Baby Blanket

Classic bear baby blanket, cute baby cover with sweet bears head applique, I have used the crumpled griddle stitch for the blanket with a pretty chain edge effect border.

I have used an Aran worsted weight yarn.

Base of ch. Work into first stitch

3ch counts as first tr.
4ch counts as first htr plus 2ch.

Size to fit approx:    31 inches x 31 inches

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

400 grams of Stylecraft Special Aran yarn
Small amounts of DK yarn in three colours for teddy bear face

6.00mm crochet hook for blanket – 5.00mm for border
4.50mm hook for teddy bear

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Made in Multiples of 2.

With 6.00mm hook make 92ch loosely or use a larger hook size. Work 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, * 1tr into next ch, 1dc into next ch, rpt from * to * end. Turn. (91 stitches)

2nd Row – 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, * 1tr into next tr, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.

Rpt 2nd Row until approximately 83 rows have been worked or your work measures 27 inches from beginning. Turn.

Border – 2ch, 1htr into the stitch at the base of 2ch, 1htr into each stitch to end, 3htr into corner, work htr evenly into row ends down first side of blanket, 3htr into corner, 1htr into each ch along starting chain edge, 3htr into corner, 1htr evenly into row ends up second side of cloth, 1htr into corner, ss to top of 2ch on beginning of row. DNT.

Second Row – 4ch, miss 1htr, 1htr into next htr, * make 2ch, miss 1htr, 1htr into next htr, * rpt from * to * around blanket working (1htr, 2ch, 1htr) into each of the corners to end, make 2ch, ss to 2nd of 4ch on beginning of row. DNT.

Third Row – ss to first 2ch space, make 2ch, 1htr into the same 2ch space, work 2htr into each 2ch space and 5htr into each of the 2ch spaces on the corners to end, ss to top of 2ch on beginning of row.

Fourth Row – 2ch, work 1htr into each htr and 5htr into each of the corners to end, ss to top of 2ch on beginning of row.

Fifth Row – 1ch, dc into stitch at the base of the 1ch, * make 3ch, miss 1htr, 1dc into next htr, * rpt from * to * around cloth to end, make 3ch, ss to first dc. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.

Teddy Bear Face – With 4.50mm hook, DK yarn and colour 1 make a magic circle, (RS) make 2ch, work 1dc into the first of the 2ch, 11tr into circle, close circle pulling loose thread, ss to dc on beginning of row. DNT. Fasten off. (12tr)

Change to colour 2.

2nd Row – 2ch, work 1dc into the first of the 2ch, 1tr into same space, work 2tr into each tr to end, ss to dc on beginning of row. DNT. (24tr)

Rpt last row once. DNT. (48tr)

3rd Row – ss into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, ss into next 15tr, 2tr into next tr, 3dtr into next tr, 2tr into next tr, (first ear made) ss into next 10tr, 2tr into next tr, 3dtr into next tr, 2tr into next tr, (second ear made) ss into each tr to end, ss to first ss. Fasten off.

Change to colour 3

Nose – Make magic circle, work 1ch, 2dc into circle, pull loose thread to close circle, ss to first dc. Fasten off.

With RS facing darn on eyes to second tr row using the centre of the ears as a guide, attach nose to top of first tr row. (see picture)

Bow – Make 8ch loosely, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (7dc)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. Rpt last row until 4 rows have been worked in all. Fasten off.

Wrap yarn around middle of dc piece several times to make the bow.

Attach bow to centre of the third tr row.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.
