Crochet in one piece with no sewing involved from the neck downwards and then add the sleeves.

Base of ch. Work into first stitch

3ch counts as first tr

Size to Fit:   16 Inch Chest, 0-3 month baby
Finished length from shoulder approx 10 Inches
Underarm sleeve length approx 4 inches

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

100 grams of King Cole Baby DK in colour 1
Small amount of King Cole DK in colour 2

4.00mm Crochet Hook, 3 small buttons

You can for a:-
Newborn baby use a 3.50mm hook
3-6 month use a 4.50mm hook
6-12 month use a 5.00mm hook.

TENSION – 4tr & 2 rows measures approx 1 Inch

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Worked in one piece, starting with yoke.

Using colour 1 make 55ch, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, (RS) 1tr in each ch to end. Turn. (52tr + 3ch)

2nd Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3tch, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into last tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (65tr + 3ch)

3rd Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

4th Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr and 3tch, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (81tr + 3ch) 

5th Row – as 3rd Row.

6th Row – (Inc Row) Rpt 4th Row. Turn. (101tr + 3ch)

7th Row – as 3rd Row.

8th Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to 3tch, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (134tr + 3ch)

9th Row – (Divide for Armholes)
Make 3ch, 1tr into each of next 18tr, 2tr into next tr,
miss 26tr, (armhole)
2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 41tr, 2tr into next tr,
miss 26tr, (armhole)
2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 18tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (86tr + 3ch)

Commence Skirt – Make 3ch, miss 2tr, 1 shell (see abbrev) into next tr, * 3ch, 1dc into first of 3ch (picot made), miss 3tr, 1 shell into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3ch, miss 2tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (21 shell groups)

Pattern Row – 3ch, 1 shell group into 1ch space of next shell group, * 3ch, 1dc into first of 3ch, 1 shell group into 1ch space of next shell group, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Row until 7 pattern rows have been worked in all. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2, work Pattern Row twice. Fasten off.

Join in colour 1, work Pattern Row once. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 – Join colour 1 to first tr of the missed 26tr on the armhole, 3ch, 1tr into each of next 25tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (25tr + 3ch)

Second Row – 3ch, miss 2tr, 1 shell into next tr, * 3ch, 1dc into first of 3ch miss 3tr, 1 shell into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr, miss 2tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (6 shell groups)

Third Row – 3ch, 1 shell group into 1ch space of next shell group, * 3ch, 1dc into first of 3ch, 1 shell group into 1ch space of next shell group, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt Third Row three more times.

Join in colour 2, work Third Row once. Fasten off.

Join in colour 1, work Third Row once. Fasten off.

Button/Buttonhole Bands – With RS facing join colour 1 to lower edge of right hand side front edge, 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, work 38 more dc evenly into row ends along to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch around neck, 3dc into corner, 38dc evenly into row ends down second front edge. Turn. 

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to neck edge. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.

Buttonhole Row – Return to first front edge, WS facing, starting from the neck and working downwards, make 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 8dc, * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of the remaining dc. Turn. (3 buttonholes made)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc and 2ch space up back edge to end. Fasten off.

Finishing – Close small gaps under arms, weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

Join in color 2, work Third Row once. Fasten off.
