Crochet shells are a favourite stitch for many and I loved making this blanket, I’m exited to share the pattern with you.

Crocheted in three colours in light worsted #3 (double knitting for UK) on a 4.50mm hook size.

Shell Group.  (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into same space or stitch

exdc. (insert hook into next stitch pull yarn through, yrh, pull through first loop, yrh, pull through 2 loops)

Base of ch. Work into first stitch

3ch counts as first tr

Approx Finished Size:  36.5 x 36.5 Inches

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

400 grams of King Cole Comfort DK in colour 1
50 grams of King Cole Comfort DK in each of the colours 2 & 3

4.50mm Crochet Hook

TENSION – 1.5 pattern rpt & 2 rows measures approx 1 Inch

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Made in multiples of 4 + 3.

Using colour 1 make 135ch, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (132tr + 3ch)

2nd Row – 3ch, 1tr into next tr, miss 2tr, 1shell (see abbrev) into next tr, * miss 3tr, 1 shell into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr and 3tch, miss 2tr, 1tr into next tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (32 Shell groups)

3rd Row – 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 1 shell into 1ch space on each shell to end, 1tr into next tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Rpt 3rd Row until 65 rows have been worked in all from beginning. Turn.

66th Row – 3ch, missing all 1ch spaces work 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Border – 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, work 2exdc into each row end down first side of blanket, 1dc into each ch along the starting chain edge, 2exdc into each row end up second side of blanket, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn.

Join in colour 2.

Second Row – 3ch, 3tr into same dc, miss 2dc, 1dc into next dc, * miss 2dc 5tr into next dc, miss 2dc, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * down first side, 7tr into corner, rpt from * to * along bottom edge, 7tr into corner, rpt from * to * up second side, 7tr into corner, rpt from * to * along top edge, miss 2dc, 3tr into dc at base of 3ch on beginning of row, ss to top of 3ch. Turn.

Third Row – Working 7tr into centre tr of 7tr groups on each corner make 3ch, work 6tr into stitch at base of 3ch, 1tr into next dc, * miss 2tr, 5tr into centre tr of 5tr group, miss 2tr, 1tr into next dc, * rpt from * to * around blanket to end,  ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn.

Join in colour 3.

Fourth Row – Working 11tr into centre tr of 7tr groups on each corner, join yarn to first single tr, 1ch, 1dc into same tr, * miss 2tr, 7tr into centre tr of 5tr group, miss 2tr, 1dc into next tr, * rpt from * to * around blanket to end,  ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn.

Join in colour 1.

Fifth Row – Join yarn to first dc with a ss, * 1dc into each of next 3tr, 3dc into next tr, 1dc into each of next 3tr, ss into next dc, * rpt from * to * between corners, (work 1dc into each of next 5tr, 3dc into next tr, 1dc into next 5tr on the corners) ss to ss on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.
