50 grams of King Cole Big Value Double Knitting Yarn in colour 2

TENSION – 5tr & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

Placemat – With colour 1 make 41ch loosely, (RS) 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (40dc)

2nd Row – 3ch, * miss 2dc, 1 vst into next dc, (see abbrev) * rpt from * to * to last 3dc, miss 2dc, 1tr into last dc. Turn. (12, vst)

3rd Row – 3ch, 1 shell (see abbrev) into each 2ch space on vst to end, 1tr into top of 3tch. Turn. (12 shell groups)

4th Row – 3ch, 1 vst into each 1ch space on shell to end, 1tr into top of 3tch. Turn.

5th Row – Rpt 3rd Row.

Rpt 4th & 5th Rows once.

Fasten off.

Join in colour 2, rpt 4th & 5th Rows seven more times or until 10 shell rows have been worked from beginning. Turn.

Fasten off.

Join in colour 1, rpt 4th & 5th Rows three more times or until 13 shell rows have been worked in all from beginning. Turn.

28th Row – 1ch, ss loosely into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, ss loosely into 1ch space of shell, * rpt from * to * to end, make 2ch, work ss into top of 3tch. Turn. (13, 2ch spaces)

29th Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * work 2dc into 2ch space, 1dc into ss, * rpt from * to * to last ss, 1dc into ss. Turn.

Border – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc across, 3dc into corner, work 2dc into each row end down first side of mat, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch along starting chain edge, 3dc into corner, work 2dc into each row end up second side of mat, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Decorative Edge – 3ch, 2tr into base of 3ch, * miss 2dc, work (ss, 3ch, 2tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * around all four sides of placemat, ss to base 3ch on beginning of row.

Fasten off.

Coaster – With colour 1 make 14ch loosely, (RS) 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (13dc)

Second Row – 3ch, * miss 2dc, 1 vst into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc, miss 2dc, 1tr into last dc. Turn. (3 vst)

Third Row – 3ch, 1 shell into each 2ch space on vst to end, 1tr in top of 3tch. Turn. (3 shell groups)

Fasten off. Join in colour 2.

Fourth Row – 3ch, 1 vst into each 1ch space on shell to end, 1tr into top of 3tch. Turn.

Fifth Row – Rpt Third Row.

Fasten off. Join in colour 1.
