40 grams of Stylecraft Special DK Yarn in Colour 1
10 grams of Stylecraft Special DK Yarn in Colour 2
Double knitting yarn is 8ply in Australia

4.00mm crochet hook

TENSION – 5tr and 2 rows measures approx 1 Inch

Make 6ch, ss to first ch to form a ring, work 2ch, 14tr into ring, miss 2ch to turn with, join with ss to first tr beginning of row. Turn. (14tr)

Row 2 – (Inc Row) 2ch, 2tr into base of 2ch, 2tr in each tr to end, miss 2ch to turn with, ss to first tr on beginning of row. Turn. (28tr)

Row 3 – (Inc Row) 2ch, 2tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, miss 2ch to turn with, ss to first tr on beginning of row. Turn. (42tr)

Row 4 – (Inc Row) 2ch, 2tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, miss 2ch to turn with, ss to first tr on beginning of row. Turn. (56tr)

Row 5 – (Inc Row) 2ch, 2tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each of next 7tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 7tr, * rpt from * to * to end, miss 2ch to turn with, ss to first tr on beginning of row. Turn. (63tr)

Rows 612 – 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each tr to end, miss 2ch to turn with, ss to first tr on beginning of row. Turn.

Row 13 – Work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, dec 1dc (see abbrev) over next 2tr, 1dc into each tr to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (62dc)

Brim – Working into back loop only, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Working through both loops from now on work as follows:-

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1tr into next dc, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1tr into last dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Pattern Row 1 – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr and dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Pattern Row 2 – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1tr into next dc, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1tr into last dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once more in colour 1 and once more in colour 2. Fasten off.

Make a small pom-pom in colour 2, I used Clover pom-pom maker no: 35

Finishing – Weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim off, attach the pom-pom to crown, decorate the brim with animal motifs or wooden buttons. (optional)
