Crochet Childs Hat-Scarf Free Crochet Pattern

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

ch3 counts as first dc

Approx Finished size

Scarf:  45 Inches x 3.5 Inches
Hat:      17 Inch Circumference

Materials
I have used:-
80 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in color 1
40 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in color 2
40 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in color 3

OR an equivalent yarn would be:-
2.85oz of Worsted Weight #3 in color 1
1.85oz of Worsted Weight #3 in color 2
1.85oz of Worsted Weight #3 in color 3

5.50mm & 4.50mm Clover crochet hooks

GAUGE – 5dc & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch using a 4.50mm hook

Scarf – Using color 1 and 5.50mm hook ch16 loosely, work 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, * skip 1ch, 2sc in next ch, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch, skip 1ch, 1sc in last ch. Turn. (14sc)

# Row 2 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip 1sc, 2sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last sc, 1sc in sc. Turn.

Rpt Row 2 until 8 rows have been worked. Fasten off. Turn

Continue to rpt Row 2 in color sequence as follows:-

# Two rows in color 2
One row in color 3
Two rows in color 2

Eight Rows in color 1 #

Rpt # to # 13 more times, until 190 rows have been worked from beginning or work measures approx 44 Inches. Turn.

Change to 4.50mm hook.

Border – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to last sc, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each row end down first side of scarf, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each ch along starting ch edge, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each row end up second side of scarf, 1sc in corner, sl st to first sc. Fasten of.

Using color 3 and Clover Pom-Pom maker small (45) make three pom-poms (2 for scarf and 1 for hat)

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn, gather each end of scarf and attach a pom-pom.

Pom-Pom Hat – Made in rounds without turning until end of 5th Round

With 4.50mm hook and color 1, ch6, sl st to first ch to make a ring. (RS) ch3, work 12dc in ring, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (12dc + ch3)

2nd Round – (Inc Round) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 2dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (25dc + ch3)

3rd Round – (Inc Round) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * 1dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1dc in last dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (38dc + ch3)

4th Round – (Inc Round) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * 1dc in each of next 2dc, 2dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, 1dc in each of last 2dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (51dc + ch3)

5th Round – (Inc Round) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * 1dc in next 3dc, 2dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc, 1dc in each of last 3dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. (64dc + ch3) Turn.

6th Round – (Inc Round) ch1, 2sc in base of ch1, * 1sc in next 4dc, 2sc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 4dc, 1sc in each of last 4dc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (78sc)

Join in color 2.

Next Round – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip 1sc, 2sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last sc, skip sc, sl st to first sc. Turn. (77sc)

Pattern Round – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip 1sc, 2sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to first sc. Turn.

Fasten off.

Rpt Pattern Round in color sequence as follows:-

Once in color 3
Twice in color 2
Eight in color 1
Twice in color 2
Once in color 3
Twice in color 2
Three times in color 1. Fasten off.

Join in color 3.

Brim – Working in back loop only for this round, work Pattern Round once. Turn.

Working through both loops from now on, rpt Pattern Round until 10 rounds have been worked in all for brim. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in trim off all loose ends of yarn, fold brim onto front of hat, attach pom-pom securely to crown.
