Block Stitch Baby Blanket – This lovely soft baby blanket started off as going to be crocheted with a main colour yarn and just a splash of colour, but ended with three different splashes.
Hope you enjoy experimenting with different shades between the blocks.

I have used a worsted weight #4 yarn (aran for UK) with a 6.50mm for body of blanket and changed to a 5.50mm hook for the edging.

Work tr around the front post of the stitch on row below.
3ch counts as first tr
Finished Measurement approx: 31 x 30 Inches
Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-
360 grams of King Cole Comfort Aran in colour 1
Small amounts of King Cole Comfort Aran in contrast colours
6.50mm & 5.50mm Clover Crochet Hooks
TENSION – 4tr measures approx 1 inch across

UK INSTRUCTIONS:
Made in multiples of 3 + 1.
Using 6.50mm hook and colour 1 make 109ch, (RS) 1tr in 4th ch from hook 1tr into each ch to end. Fasten off. Turn. (106tr + 3ch)
2nd Row – Join in contrast colour make 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 3tr, work 1dc into space between next 2tr, * (see pic) rpt from * to * to last 3tr and 3tch, miss 3tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (35, 2ch spaces)
3rd Row – Join in color 1 make 3ch, work 3tr into each 2ch space to last dc, 1tr into last dc. Fasten off. Turn.
Rpt 2nd & 3rd Rows until 33 more times. Fasten off. Turn.
With WS facing and using 5.50mm hook, join colour 1 to corner on side of blanket, work 105dc evenly into row ends to corner. Turn.
Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.
Join colour 1 to opposite side of blanket, work 105dc evenly into row ends to corner. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.
Border – 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc down first side of blanket, 3dc into dc, 1dc into each dc across top of blanket, 3dc onto corner, 1dc into each dc up second side of blanket, 3dc into dc, 1dc into each dc along bottom of blanket, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc. Turn.
Peaked Group Edge – (3ch, tr2tog, make 3ch, ss into 3rd ch from hook, tr3tog) into base of 3ch, miss 1dc, fptr around next dc, * miss 1dc, work peaked tr3tog group (see abbrev) into next dc, miss 1dc, fptr around next dc, * rpt from * to * to end.
Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn.
