I have made them in a light worsted #3 acrylic, but you can also swap it to a cotton yarn in the same ply and use them outside, use up your left over yarn and make one in each colour.

For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-
35 grams of King Cole Comfort DK yarn (Makes 6 coasters)
4.50mm crochet hook

UK INSTRUCTIONS:
Make 10ch, ss to first ch to make a ring, make 1ch, work 16dc into ring, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (16dc)
2nd Row – (RS) 3ch, 1tr into stitch at the base of 3ch, 2tr into each dc to end, ss to top of 3ch. Turn. (31tr + 3ch)
3rd Row – 1ch, 1dc into stitch at the base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (32dc)
4th Row – 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, 1dc into next dc, * make 6ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 3dc, * rpt * to * to last 2dc, make 6ch, miss 1dc, work 1dc into last dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. DNT. (8, 6ch spaces)
5th Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1dc, work 9tr into next 6ch space, miss 1dc, 1dc into next dc, * rpt * to * to last 6ch space and dc, work 9tr into space, miss 1dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.
Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.
