Long Shell Chevron Stitch

Long Shell Chevron Stitch – This beautiful free stitch tutorial is my version of the vintage fan ripple stitch, I have used a treble (dtr for UK) stitch.

This is a gorgeous design for blankets etc. learn how to crochet it from my instructions below in USA and UK formats.

Long Shell Chevron Stitch USA

Abbreviations USA
ch.
      Chain

sc.      Single Crochet
dc.     Double Crochet
trc.    Treble Crochet
sl st.  Slip Stitch
rpt.    Repeat
tch.   Turning Chain
yo.     Yarn Over

Base of ch.    Work in first stitch.

Dec 1sc.         Decrease 1 Single Crochet
Pull up loop from each sc, yo, pull through 3 loops.

ch4 counts as first trc.

* NOTE – Work through the back loop of every stitch throughout.*

Make a chain length in multiples of 9 + 1.

1st Row – 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in next 3sc, * 3sc in next sc, 1sc in each of next 8ch, * rpt from * to * to last 5ch, 3sc in next ch, 1sc in each of last ch4. Turn.

2nd Row – ch1, dec 1sc over first 2sc, (see abbrev) 1sc in each of next 3sc, * 3sc in centre sc of 3, 1sc in each of next 4sc, skip 2sc, 1sc in each of next 4sc, * rpt from * to * to last 6sc, 3sc in centre sc of 3, 1sc in each of next 3sc, dec 1sc over last 2sc. Turn.

3rd Row – Rpt 2nd Row.

4th Row – ch1, sl st in base of ch1, sl st in each of next 2sc, ch4, 1trc in each of next 2sc, * 3trc in centre sc of 3, 1trc in each of next 3sc, skip 4sc, 1trc in each of next 3sc, * rpt from * to * to last 6sc, 3trc in centre sc of 3, 1trc in each of next 3sc, turn leaving last 2sc un-worked.

Fasten off. Join in a contrast color.

PATTERN ROWS 

First Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 3trc, * 3sc in centre trc of 3, 1sc in each of next 8trc, * rpt from * to * to last 4sc and 4tch, 3sc in centre trc of 3, 1sc in each of last 3trc, 1sc in top of ch4. Turn.

Second Row – ch1, dec 1sc over first 2sc, 1sc in each of next 3sc, * 3sc in centre sc of 3, 1sc in each of next 4sc, skip 2sc, 1sc in each of next 4sc, * rpt from * to * to last 6sc, 3sc in centre sc of 3, 1sc in each of next 3sc, dec 1sc over last 2sc. Turn.

Third Row – Rpt 2nd Row.

Fourth Row – ch1, sl st in base of ch1, sl st in each of next 2sc, ch4, 1trc in each of next 2sc, * 3trc in centre sc of 3, 1trc in each of next 3sc, skip 4sc, 1trc in each of next 3sc, * rpt from * to * to last 6sc, 3trc in centre sc of 3, 1trc in each of next 3sc, turn leaving last 2sc un-worked.

To make your desired length repeat pattern rows First to Fourth changing color every repeat, when required length is reached repeat First Row (of the pattern rows)

Base of ch.     Work into first stitch.
