Simple Textured Mug Cozy – Easily adjustable free mug cozy
pattern, just add more or less rows for size. Made in a textured stitch design, can be crocheted with cotton or acrylic yarns.

It is quick to make and would be great for a last minute gift if you put a mug with it.

Simple Textured Mug Cozy Free Crochet Pattern

sc.         Single Crochet
dc.        Double Crochet
rpt.       Repeat
sl st.     Slip Stitch
DNT.    Do Not Turn

Crab Stitch.  (See Tutorial)
Work sc left to right

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

Approx Finished Size:  Average mug size, but you can adjust to fit

For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn I have used approximately:-

100 grams of Lion Brand Vanna’s Style #3 (makes 6 cozies)

5.00mm Clover Crochet Hook, 1 medium button


ch10 loosely, work (1sc, 1dc) in 2nd ch from hook, * skip 1ch, (1sc, 1dc) in next ch, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch, skip 1ch, 1sc in last ch. Turn.

Pattern Row – ch1, (1sc, 1dc) in base of ch1, * skip next dc, (1sc, 1dc) in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last dc and sc, skip 1dc, 1sc in last sc. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Row until 32 rows have been worked or work measures approx 9 inches from beg. (You can add more rows here for a larger mug)

Border – ch1, 2sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 7st, 3sc in last st, working along first side of cozy work 1sc in each row end to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of next 7ch along cast on edge, 3sc in corner, work 1sc in each row end up second side of cozy to corner, 1sc in corner, sl st to first sc. DNT.

ch1, work crab stitch (see abbrev) down first side, along bottom, up second side, work across first 5sc, ch12, work crab stitch along last 5sc, sl st to first sc.

Fasten off.

Finishing – Sew and tie off loose ends of yarn. Sew on button to correspond with loop, fasten button though loop.
