Staggered Squares Crochet Lapghan – This lapghan is a great alternative to the larger afghan blanket, it is ideal for throwing over your legs in cooler evenings.

This size of this lapghan gives it multiple uses ie. baby cover, travel blanket or knee cover for wheelchair users.

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

ch3 counts as first dc

Approx Finished Size:   31 x 35.5 Inches

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

250 grams of Paintbox Simply Aran Yarn in color 1
150 grams of Paintbox Simply Aran Yarn in color 2

An equivalent yarn would be a worsted weight #4

6.50mm Crochet Hook

GAUGE – 4dc & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

The lapghan is made in multiples of 8 + 5

With color 1 ch117, work 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in next ch, * ch2, skip 2ch, 1sc in next ch, ch2, skip 2ch, 1dc in each of next ch3, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.

2nd Row – (RS) ch3, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * skip ch2, 1dc in next sc, (ch3, 3sc) around the post of the last dc made, skip ch2, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc in top of 3tch. Turn. (14, groups)

3rd Row – ch3, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * ch2, skip 3dc, 1sc in top of ch3 on post 3dc group, ch2, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc in top of 3tch. Turn.

4th Row – ch3, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * skip ch2, 1dc in next sc, (ch3, 3sc) around the post of the last dc made, skip ch2, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc in top of 3tch. Turn.

Rpt 3rd & 4th Rows 6 more times.

Work 3rd Row once. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

Work 4th Row once.

Work 3rd & 4th Rows 11 more times.

Work 3rd Row once. Turn.

Fasten off. Join in color 1.

Work 4th Row once

Work 3rd & 4th Rows 7 more times.

Work 3rd Row once. Turn.

You should have 57 rows worked in all from the beginning.

Border – ch1, 1sc in base of of ch1, work 100sc evenly across, 3sc in corner, 2sc in each row end down first side of lapghan, 3sc in corner, 100sc evenly along starting chain edge, 3sc in corner, 2sc in each row end up second side of lapghan, 1sc in corner, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.

Second Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc to end, working 3sc in the corners, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt Second Row once.

Fasten off. Join in color 2.

Rpt Second Row once.

Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.
