I have used a multicolour light worsted yarn but solid colours can be used if you prefer.

TENSION – 4tr & 2.5 rows measures approx 1 inch

UK INSTRUCTIONS:
Made with two rectangles in multiples of 3
Panels x 2 – With 5.00mm hook make 132ch loosely, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn.
2nd Row – 1ch, (1dc, 2tr) into the stitch at the base of 1ch, * miss 2tr, (1dc, 2tr) into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3tch, miss 2tr, work 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.
3rd Row – Working through BLO work 3ch, 1tr into each tr and dc to end. Turn.
Rpt 2nd & 3rd Rows until work measures approx 15.5 inches from beginning. Fasten off.
Assemble
With RS facing line up the long side of first panel to short side of second panel, but join seam on WS of work. (see pic, you will need the RS facing for stage 2)
Fold first panel to start of first seam. (see pic 1)
Fold your second panel up to the end of the first panel. (see pics 2 & 3)
Join seam (see pic 4)
Turn through.
Border – With RS facing and 4.50mm hook join yarn to a corner on bottom of poncho, make 1ch, work 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, 1dc evenly into all row ends and stitches around poncho to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, work one row of 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on the beginning of each row. Fasten off.
Neck Edge – With RS facing and 4.50mm hook join yarn to either the front or the back v-shape.
First Row – 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of 1ch, 1dc into next stitch, * dec 1dc over next 2 stitches, work 1dc into each of next 2 stitches, * rpt from * to * around neck to end, ss to first dc. Turn.
Repeat last row once. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on the beginning of row. Turn.
Rpt last row 3 more times. Fasten off.
Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.
