For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

140 grams of Stylecraft Special DK yarn in colour 1
50 grams of Stylecraft Special DK yarn in colour 2

5.00mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks, 3 small buttons

TENSION – 4.5tr & 2 rows of tr’s measures approx 1 inch square

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Cardigan – Worked in one piece from the neck down, starting with the yoke.

Using 4.00mm hook and colour 1 make 54ch, (RS) 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (53dc)

2nd Row – Working through front and back loop of stitch alternately make 3ch, 1tr into each st to end. Turn. (52tr + 3ch)

3rd Row – (Inc Row) Working through both loops, make 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3tch, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into last tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (65tr + 3ch)

4th Row – as 2nd Row working last tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (65tr + 3ch) 

5th Row – (Inc Row) Working through both loops, make 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (86tr + 3ch)

6th Row – As 2nd Row working last tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

7th Row – As 5th Row working last tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (114tr + 3ch)

8th Row – As 2nd Row working last tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

9th Row – (Inc Row) As 5th row, until 1tr and 3tch remain, 1tr into next tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. (151tr + 3ch)

Commence with Skirt – Change to 5.00mm hook, make 3ch, miss 1tr, * 1dc group (see abbrev) into next tr, miss 2tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3tch, miss tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (50 dc groups)

Next Row – (Divide for armholes) 3ch, * 1dc group into 2ch space of next dc group, * rpt from * to * 5 more times, 2dc, 2ch into next dc group, miss next 10 dc groups, (armhole) 2dc into next dc group, rpt from * to * 14 more times, 2dc, 2ch into next dc group, miss 10 dc groups, (armhole) 2dc into next dc group, rpt from * to * 6 more times, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (28 dc groups including the 2 groups under each arm)

Pattern Row – 3ch, 1 dc group into each 2ch space of dc groups to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Row until 12 rows have been worked in all from yoke or work measures approx 8.5 inches from shoulder. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2 and work Pattern Row twice. Fasten off. Turn.

Join in colour 1 and work Pattern Row twice. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 – With colour 1, RS facing and 5.00mm hook, rejoin yarn through both sides of dc on sleeves (where you divided for armholes), make 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the  1ch * 1 dc group into next dc group, * rpt from * to * 9 more times, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (10 dc groups)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, * 1 dc group into 2ch space of next dc group, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Repeat the last row until 12 rows have been worked in all from yoke. Turn.

Join in colour 2 and work Pattern Row twice, ss at the end of each row. Fasten off. Turn.

Join in colour 1 and work Pattern Row twice, ss at the end of each row. Fasten off. 

Front edging – With contrast colour yarn, 4.00mm hook and RS facing, start at lower edge on right hand side of coat, work 41dc evenly into row ends, up right front, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each stitch around neck, 3dc into corner, 41dc evenly into row ends down left front of coat. Turn.

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, 1dc into each of next 42dc. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, work 3 more rows in dc on these 43dc, turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.

Buttonhole Band – Return to first side of front edge and working from neck edge downwards, work 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, 1dc into each of next 42dc. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, work one more row in dc. Turn.

Buttonhole Row – 1ch, 1dc in the stitch at the base of the 1ch, * 2ch, miss 2dc, 1dc into next 5dc,* rpt from * to * once, 2ch, miss 2dc, 1dc into each of remaining dc. Turn. (3 buttonholes)

Work 1 more row of 1dc into each dc and 2dc into each 2ch space to end. Fasten off.

Beanie Hat – With 5.00mm hook and colour 1, make a magic circle, work 1ch, 10dc into circle, pull loose thread to close, ss to first dc on beginning of round. Turn.

2nd Round – (Inc Round) 1ch, 2dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, 2dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of round. Turn. (20dc)

3rd Round – 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of round. Turn. 

4th Round – (Inc Round) 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, 2dc into next dc, * 1dc into next dc, 2dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc on beginning of round. Turn. (30dc)

Using colour 2.

Brim – Working into BLO make 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch * miss 2dc, (2dc, 2ch, 2dc) into next dc, * rpt from * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (19, groups)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, work 1 dc group into each 2ch space of dc groups to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Repeat the last row until 7 rows have been worked in all. Fasten off.

Finishing – Close any small gaps underarms on sleeves, weave in and trim off loose ends of yarn on cardigan and beanie hat, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes on cardigan.
