Crochet Staggered Shells-Vstitch – Such a lovely design, this staggered shells and v-stich is an easy to learn pattern, made with a large hook it produces a soft feel which is great for most projects.

I have written the tutorial in two formats below, scroll down to get them.

The materials I have used to crochet the swatches were Paintbox Simply DK yarn using a 5.00mm crochet hook, but any ply yarn can be used with the appropriate hook size, check your ball band for the info.

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Abbreviations UK
ch.       Chain
dc.       Double Crochet
tr.        Treble Crochet
rpt.      Repeat
tch.      Turning Chain

Vst.      (1tr, 1ch, 1tr)

Shell.   9tr into 1ch space on vst

3ch counts as first tr.

Make a chain length in multiples of 8 + 2

1st Row – 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, * miss 3ch, work 1 shell into next ch, miss 3ch, 1dc into next ch, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.

2nd Row – 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * 1ch, miss next 3tr, work 1dc into each of next 3tr, make 1ch, miss 3tr, 1 vst into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last shell, make 1ch, miss next 3tr, work 1dc into each of next 3tr, make 1ch, miss 3tr, work 2tr into last dc. Turn.

3rd Row – 3ch, 4tr into base of 3ch, miss (1tr, 1ch, 1dc) work 1dc into next dc, * miss (1dc, 1ch, 1tr) work 1 shell into 1ch space of vst, miss (1tr, 1ch, 1dc) work 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, miss (1dc, 1ch, 1tr) work 5tr into top of 3tch. Turn.

4th Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next tr, make 1ch, miss 3tr, 1 vst into next dc, * make 1ch, miss 3tr, 1dc into each of next 3tr, make 1ch, miss 3tr, work 1 vst into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 4tr and 3tch, make 1ch, miss 3tr, work 1dc into next tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.

5th Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1dc, 1ch and 1tr, work 1 shell into 1ch space on vst, miss 1tr, 1ch and 1dc, work 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, miss 1dc, 1dc in to last dc. Turn.

Rpt 2nd to 5th Rows until required length changing colours every 2 rows if you wish.

4th Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next dc, ch1, skip 3dc, 1 vst in next sc, * ch1, skip 3dc, 1sc in each of next 3dc, ch1, skip 3dc, work 1 vst in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 4dc and 3tch, ch1, skip 3dc, work 1sc in next dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn.

5th Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip 1sc, ch1 and 1dc, work 1 shell in ch1 space on vst, skip 1dc, ch1 and 1sc, work 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 2sc, skip 1sc, 1sc in to last sc. Turn.
