Crochet Star Motif

My crochet star motif is a great little embellishment to brighten up plain projects, add a loop and use for gift tags or make several and sew them together to make afghans, lapghans, baby blankets etc.

WS.    Wrong Side
RS.     Right Side
ch.     Chain
sc.      Single Crochet
hdc.   Half Double Crochet
dc.     Double Crochet
rpt.    Repeat
sl st.  Slip Stitch

Group.       (4dc, ch1, 4dc) in same space or stitch.

dc3tog.     Double Crochet Three Together
dc4tog.     Double Crochet Four Together

bpsc.         Back Post Single Crochet
On the dc4tog on the row below, work a sc around the back post.

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

3ch counts as first dc

Approx Finished Size:    5.5 Inches Diameter Point to Point

For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn I have used:-
Small amounts of Paintbox Simply DK in colors 1 & 2

OR an equivalent yarn would be:-
Small amounts of Worsted Weight #3 in color 1 & 2

4.50mm Clover Crochet Hook


With color 1 make Magic Circle, (RS) ch3, 11dc in circle, pull loose thread to close, sl st to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (11dc + 3ch)

Second Row – ch1, 2sc in base of ch1, 2sc in each dc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (24sc)

Join in color 2

Third Row – 3ch, dc3tog (see abbrev) in base of 3ch, * ch1, 1dc in next sc, dc4tog (see abbrev) in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (12, dc3tog)

Fourth Row – sl st to first dc, (4ch, 1hdc) in same dc, * bpsc (see pics below) around next dc4tog, (1hdc, ch2, 1hdc) in top of next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc4tog, work bpsc around last dc4tog, sl st to 3rd of 4ch on beginning of row. Turn. (12, ch2 spaces)

Fifth Row – sl st to first ch2 space, ch3, work (3dc, ch1, 4dc) in same space, * 1sc in next ch2 space, (4dc, ch1, 4dc) in next ch2 space, * rpt from * to * to last ch2 space, 1sc in ch2 space, sl st to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (6 groups)

Join in color 1 to first of 4dc on any group.

Sixth Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 3dc, * (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in ch2 space, 1sc in each of next 4dc, sl st in sc, 1sc in each of next 4dc, * rpt from * to * to last sc, sl st in sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim off.
