Crochet Star Motif

My crochet star motif is a great little embellishment to brighten up plain projects, add a loop and use for gift tags or make several and sew them together to make afghans, lapghans, baby blankets etc.

Group.       (4tr, 1ch, 4tr) into same space or stitch.

tr3tog.       Treble Crochet Three Together
tr4tog.       Treble Crochet Four Together
(pictorial for tr3tog, tr4tog)

bpdc.         Back Post Double Crochet

On the tr4tog on the row below work a dc around the back post.

Base of ch. Work into first stitch

3ch counts as first tr

Approx Finished Size:    5.5 Inches Diameter Point to Point

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn I have used:-
Small amounts of Paintbox Simply DK yarn in colours 1 & 2

4.50mm crochet hook

With colour 1 make Magic Circle, (RS) work 3ch, 11tr into circle, pull loose thread to close, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (11tr + 3ch)

Second Row – 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, 2dc into each tr to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (24dc)

Join in colour 2

Third Row – 2ch, tr3tog (see abbrev) into base of 3ch, * make 1ch, 1tr into next dc, tr4tog (see abbrev) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (12, tr4tog)

Fourth Row – ss to first tr, (4ch, 1htr) into same tr, * bpdc (see pics below) around next tr4tog, (1htr, 2ch, 1htr) into top of next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr4tog, work bpdc around last tr4tog, ss to 2nd of 4ch on beginning of row. Turn. (12, 2ch spaces)

Fifth Row – ss to first 2ch space, make 3ch, work (3tr, 1ch, 4tr) into same space, * 1dc into next 2ch space, (4tr, 1ch, 4tr) into next 2ch space, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch space, 1dc into 2ch space, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (6 groups)

Join in colour 1 to first of 4tr on any group.

Sixth Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 3tr, * (2dc, 1ch, 2dc) into 2ch space, 1dc into each of next 4tr, ss into dc, 1dc into each of next 4tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch space, 4tr and dc, work (2dc, 1ch, 2dc) into 2ch space, 1dc into each of next 4tr, ss into dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim off.
