Size to fit approx:  0 – 3 Month baby

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

50 grams of King Cole Comfort DK in colour 1 for each hat
20 grams of King Cole Comfort DK in colour 2 for each hat

4.00mm Crochet Hook, approx ½ meter of 6mm ribbon

You can for a:-
Newborn baby use a 3.50mm hook
3-6 month use a 4.50mm hook
6-12 month use a 5.00mm hook.

TENSION – 1.5 bobbles and 1.5 rows measures approx 1 inch

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

With colour 1 make 61ch loosely, (RS) work 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (58tr + 3ch)

Fasten off. Join in colour 2

1st Row – (WS) 1ch, 1dc into base of ch, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * MB (see abbrev) into next tr, 1dc into next 3tr * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc into top of 3ch. Turn. Fasten off.

Join in colour 1

2nd Row – 3ch, 1tr into each stitch to end. Turn.

Rpt 1st & 2nd Rows until 11 rows have been worked or work measures approx 4 inches from beginning. Fasten off. Turn. (14 bobbles)

Back Panel – Miss 22tr, working into FLO join colour 1 to next tr, make 3ch, 1tr into each of next 14tr, turn leaving 22st un-worked. (14tr + 3ch)

Working through both loops from now on, starting with 3ch, continue in tr stitch on these centre 15 stitches until centre panel fits along side panels. Fasten off.

With WS facing join colour 1 to cast on edge at front of bonnet, starting with 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, work 2 rows of 1dc into each stitch evenly along edge. Fasten off.

Back Frill – With RS facing fold centre panel to the back of your work, working into FLO, join colour 2 to top of 3ch, make 3ch, 2tr into each stitch across all stitches including the centre panel to last tr, 1tr into last tr. Turn. (115tr + 3ch) 

Second Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

With WS facing, sew up side seams, turn through to the right side, using colour 1 and starting at front of bonnet with RS facing, work 1 row of tr stitch evenly along neck edge. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends, thread ribbon through tr at neck edge.

Beanie Hat – With colour 1 make 6ch, join with ss to form a ring, 3ch, 15tr into ring, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.

Round 2 – 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 2tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (31tr + 3ch)

Round 3 – 3ch, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr, 2tr into last tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (47tr + 3ch)

Round 4 – 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr, 2tr into last tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (63tr + 3ch)

Round 5 – 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * 1tr into each of next 12tr, 2tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 11tr, 1tr into each of last 11tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (68tr + 3ch)

Join in colour 2.

Pattern Round 1 – (WS) 1ch, 1dc into base of ch, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * MB (see abbrev) into next tr, 1dc into each of next 3tr * rpt from * to * to last 2tr, MB into next tr, 1dc into last tr, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. Fasten off. (17 bobbles)

Join in colour 1

Pattern Round 2 – 3ch, 1tr into each stitch to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round. Turn. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2

Rpt Pattern Rounds 1 & 2 changing colour every row until 17 rounds have been worked in all. Turn. 

Starting each row with 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, work 2 rows of 1dc into each stitch, turning and ss at the end of each row. Fasten off. (69dc)

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.
