For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

250 grams of King Cole Comfort Aran yarn in colour 1
70 grams of King Cole Comfort Aran yarn in colour 2

5.50mm Clover Crochet Hook

TENSION – 1 pattern rpt & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

Scarf – With colour 1 make 208ch loosely, work (RS) 2tr into 4th ch from hook, * miss 3ch, work (1dc, 3ch, 3tr) into next ch, * rpt from * to * to last 4ch, miss next 3ch, dc into last ch. Turn. (50 full groups + 1 half group)

Pattern Row – 3ch, 2tr into base of 3ch, miss next 2tr, * fpdc (see abbrev) around next tr, work 3ch, 3tr into next 3ch space, miss next dc and 2tr, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 2tr and 3tch, miss dc and 2tr, work dc between last tr and 3tch. Turn.

Repeat Pattern Row in colour sequence as follows:-

Once in each of colours 1, 2, 1, 2,
Three times in colour 1. Turn.

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1dc into each of next 3tr, 1dc into top of 3ch, miss 1dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3tch, work 1dc into each tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (204dc)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2 rows of 1dc into each dc to end, turning at the end of each row.

Fasten off.

Using colour 1 and starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 204dc evenly along starting ch edge. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2 rows of 1dc into each dc to end, turning at the end of each row.

Fasten off.

Tassels x 16 – (Make 4 in colour 2 and 12 in colour 1)
For each tassel cut 3 strands of yarn approx 6 inches long (or the length you require)

Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn on scarf.

With RS of scarf facing, fold each tassel in half and thread the open ends through the alternate row ends on scarf, (colour 2 tassels to match with colour 2 on scarf), pull through loop you have created and secure, trim to make even.

Hat – With colour 2 make 7ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (6dc)

2nd Row – Working into BLO make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.

Rpt 2nd Row until you have 72 rows worked in all.

You can add more rows here if you wish to make the hat larger.

Fold work in half and ss last row worked and starting chain edge together to make a round.

Turn work so you are working into row ends, (ss seam facing) make 1ch, work 1dc into each row end to end. (72dc).

Fasten off. Turn work on to RS, (ss seam is on the inside)

Join in colour 1.

1st Row – 3ch, (RS) 3tr into base of 3ch, * miss 3dc, work (1dc, 3ch, 3tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc, miss next 2dc, dc into last dc, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (18 groups)

2nd Row – 3ch, 3tr into next dc, miss next 2tr, * fpdc around next tr, work 3ch, 3tr into next 3ch space, miss next dc and 2tr, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr, miss 2tr, work dc into last tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt 2nd Row until 15 rows have been worked or work measures approx 9 inches from beginning. Turn.

Decrease Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1st, 1dc into next st, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc on the beginning of row. Turn. (36dc)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work one row of 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row.

Fasten off leaving length of yarn. Using a darning needle thread loose yarn between the dc’s and gather together to secure.

Using color 2 make a pom-pom, I used Clover pom-pom maker no 65

Finishing – Weave in a trim off any loose ends of yarn, attach pom-pom to crown.
