TENSION – 4tr and 2 rows of tr’s measures approx 1 Inch using a 4.00mm hook

Worked in one piece starting with yoke.
Using colour 1 and 4.00mm hook make 49ch, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into the next 4ch (front), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into next 8ch (shoulder), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 15ch (back), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 8ch. (shoulder), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 6ch (front). Turn. (54tr + 3ch)
2nd Row – (Inc Row) Make 3ch, * 1tr into each tr to next 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr of 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr of 3tr group, 1tr into each tr to 3ch to turn with, work 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (62tr + 3ch)
3rd to 6th Row – rpt 2nd Row. Turn. (94tr + 3ch)

Sleeves x 2 – With WS facing, using 5.00mm hook rejoin colour 1 to centre tr of 5tr under arm, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 24tr, 1dc into centre tr of 5tr on opposite side of sleeve under arm, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (26dc)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.
Button/Buttonhole Bands – With RS facing, 4.00mm hook and colour 1, start at lower edge on right front, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 36 more dc evenly into row ends up first front edge to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch around neck to next corner, 3dc into corner, work 37dc evenly into row ends down second front edge to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each tr along bottom of coat to end, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.
Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to next corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc to neck edge. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to next corner. Fasten off.
Buttonhole Band – Return to opposite side of front edge and working on WS from the neck downwards, make 1ch, work 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 6dc, * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of remaining dc to corner. Turn. (3 buttonholes made)
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to end. Fasten off.
To make the hooded coat for a boy swap Buttonhole Band to opposite side.
Hood – With 5.00mm hook and colour 1 make 58ch, work 1tr into 4th ch from hook, * miss 2ch, 3tr into next ch, * rpt from * to * to last 3ch, miss 2ch, work 2tr into last ch. Turn. (17, 3tr groups)
Row 2 – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into centre tr of 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3tch, make 2ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (18, 2ch spaces)
Row 3 – 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * miss 2ch, 3tr into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch and dc, miss 2ch, 2tr into dc. Turn.
Rpt Rows 2 & 3 until nine 3tr group rows have been worked or work measures approx 6 Inches from beginning. Fasten off.
Fold hood in half width ways, with WS facing and colour 1, ss loosely through both sides of cast on ch’s to close back seam. Fasten off.
Neck Edging – Using colour 1, working on WS work 48dc evenly into row ends along neck edge to end. Fasten off.
Join Hood to Coat – With WS facing and missing button/buttonhole bands from each side, attach the hood to neck edge on jacket by slip stitching through dc on coat and dc on neck edge of hood or you can also whip stitch them together with a needle and yarn if you want.
Finishing – Close small gaps underarms on sleeves, weave in all loose ends of yarn and trim off, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
