Materials

For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-
100 grams of Stylecraft Special DK yarn

3 small buttons

Crochet Hook Sizes
For a:- 

0 – 3 month use – 4.00mm (yoke) & 4.50mm hook for rest of cardigan

3 – 6 month use – 5.00mm (yoke) & 5.50mm hook for rest of cardigan

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Starting with yoke and worked in one piece.

With the smaller hook size make 51ch, (RS) work 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each of the next 6ch, (front) 3dc into next ch, 1dc into each of next 8ch, (sleeve) 3dc into next ch, 1dc into each of next 16ch, (back) 3dc into next ch, 1dc into each of next 8ch, (sleeve) 3dc into next ch, 1dc into each of next 7ch. (front) Turn. (58dc)

2nd Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, work * 1tr into each dc to next 3dc group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre dc of 3dc group, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc group, 1tr into next dc, 3tr into centre dc of 3dc group, 1tr into each dc to end. Turn. (65 + 3ch)

3rd Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, work * 1tr into each tr to next 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr of 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr of 3tr group, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (73tr + 3ch)

4th to 9th Rows – Rpt 3rd Row. (121 + 3ch)

Use the larger hook size from now on.

10th Row – (Divide for Armholes) 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 15tr, 2dc into next tr, miss 26tr, work 2dc into next tr, 1dc into each of next 34tr, 2dc into next tr, miss 26tr, work 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (73dc)

11th Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of the 1ch, * miss 1dc, (1dc, 1tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, miss 1dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn. (35 groups)

12th Row – 1ch, (1dc, 1tr) into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, * miss 1tr, (1dc, 1tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, work 1dc into dc. Turn. (36 groups)

13th Row – 1ch, (1dc, 1tr) into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, * miss 1tr, (1dc, 1tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last tr and dc, miss 1tr, work 1dc into last dc. Turn.

Rpt 13th Row until 19 rows have been worked from yoke in all. Fasten off.

Sleeve x 2 – With WS facing, join yarn with a sl st under arm to first missed tr, make 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base if the 1ch, work 1dc into each of the next 25tr, ss to first dc on the beginning of row. Turn. (26dc)

Second Row – 1ch, (1dc, 1tr) into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, * miss 1dc, (1dc, 1tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, miss dc, ss to first dc on beginning of round. Turn. (13 groups)

Third Row – 1ch, (1dc, 1tr) into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, * miss 1tr, (1dc, 1tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last tr, miss tr, ss to first dc on beginning of round. Turn.

Rpt Third Row until 19 rows have been worked from yoke in all. Fasten off.

Front Bands
With RS facing join yarn to lower edge of right hand side of front edge, make 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of 1ch, work dc evenly into row ends up first front edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch around neck edge, 3dc into corner, work dc evenly into row ends down second front edge. Turn.

Rows 2 & 3 – Working on left front band only make 1ch, 1dc into stitch at the base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. Fasten off at the end of row 3.

Button Hole Row – Return to first front edge, with WS facing, starting from the neck and working downwards, make 1ch, work 1dc into stitch at the base of 1ch, make 2ch, * miss 2dc, 1dc into each of the next 5dc, * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 2dc, work 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. (3 Buttonholes)

Next Row – 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, 1dc into each dc and 2dc into each 2ch space to end. Fasten off.

Finishing – Using loose strand of yarn from when you started the sleeves, close small gaps underarms, weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

Front Bands
