ch. Chain
dc. Double Crochet
tr. Treble Crochet
rpt. Repeat
tch. Turning Chain
yrh. Yarn Round Hook
tr2tog. Treble Crochet 2 Together
Leaving last loop of each tr on hook work 2tr into next dc, yrh, pull through all loops.
Base of ch. Work into first stitch
3ch counts as first tr.
Approx finished size: 10 x 10 Inches
Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-
20 grams of King Cole Comfort DK in each of the colours 1 & 2
4.50mm crochet hook
TENSION – 5dc & 3 pattern rows measures approx 1 inch

UK INSTRUCTIONS:
With colour 1 make 36ch loosely, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (35dc)
2nd Row – 4ch, * miss 1dc, tr2tog (see abbrev) into next dc, make 1ch, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, make 1ch, miss 1dc, work 1tr into last dc. Turn. (16, tr2tog)
3rd Row – 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, 1dc into each 1ch space and tr2tog to 4tch, work 1dc into 4ch space, 1dc into 3rd of 4ch. Turn.
Rpt 2nd and 3rd Rows twice more. Fasten off.
Join in colour 2 and rpt 2nd and 3rd Rows five more times. Fasten off.
Join in colour 1 and rpt 2nd and 3rd Rows three more times. Fasten off.
Border – Join in colour 2, make 3ch, 1tr into stitch at base of 3ch, work 34tr evenly down first side of mat, 3tr into corner, 1tr into each chain along starting chain edge, 3tr into corner, work 34tr evenly into row ends up second side of mat, 3tr into corner, 1tr into dc along top of mat, 1tr into corner, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
Starting 1ch, 1dc into stitch at base of 1ch, work dc into each tr around mat to end, working 3dc into each corner, ss to first dc on the beginning of row. Turn. Fasten off.
Picot Edge – Join in colour 2 to any corner, work 1ch, (3dc, 2ch, 3dc) into same dc, * miss 2dc, work (2dc, 2ch, 2dc) into next dc, * rpt from * to * around mat to end, working (3dc, 2ch, 3dc) into each corner to last dc, miss dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.
Finishing – Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn.
