For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-
110 grams of Bernat Baby yarn in colour 1
Small amount of Bernat Baby yarn in colour 1
An equivalent would be a double knitting yarn
3 small buttons
You can for a:-
0 – 3 month baby use a 3.50mm hook
3-6 month baby use a 4.00mm hook
6-12 month baby use a 4.50mm hook

Worked in one piece, starting with yoke.
With colour 1, make 55ch, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into the next 6ch (front), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into next 8ch (sleeve), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 17ch (back), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 8ch. (sleeve), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 8ch (front). Turn. (60tr + 3ch)
2nd Row – (Inc Row) 3ch, * 1tr into each tr to next 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr of 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr of 3tr group, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (68tr + 3ch)
Rpt the 2nd Row working into BLO on the 3rd, 5th & 7th Rows until 8 rows have been worked in all. Turn. (116tr + 3ch)

Button/Buttonhole Bands – With RS facing, colour 1 and starting at lower edge on right hand side of coat, work 2dc evenly into each row end up first front edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each stitch around neck edge, 3dc into corner, work 2dc evenly into each row end down second front edge to end. Turn.
Row 2 – 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, 1dc into each dc to neck edge. Turn.
Rpt last row once working to bottom of jacket. Fasten off.
Buttonhole Band – Return to neck edge on first front edge, with WS facing and working from neck downwards, make 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 2dc, 1dc into each of next 7dc, * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 2dc, 1dc into each of the remaining dc. Turn. (3 Buttonholes)
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, work 1dc into each dc and 2dc into each 2ch space to end. Fasten off.
Finishing – Close small gap under arms, weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
Love Heart Applique – Using same size hook as you have used for the jacket, make a magic circle, (RS) work 4ch, (4dtr, 4tr, 1ch, 1dtr, 1ch, 4tr, 4dtr, 4ch, ss) into circle. Pull end of yarn to close circle. Turn.
2nd Row – 4ch, 1dc into top of 4ch, 2dc into each of next 3st, 1dc into each of next 6st, (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into dtr, 1dc into each of next 6st, 2dc into each of next 3st, 1dc into top of 4ch, make 4ch, ss into centre of magic circle. Fasten off.
