100 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in colour 1
70 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in colour 2

5.00mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks, 3 buttons

TENSION – 5tr and 2 rows of tr’s measures approx 1 Inch using 4.00mm hook

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Body – Worked in one piece from neck downwards, starting with the yoke.

Using colour 1 and 4.00mm hook, make 62ch, work 1tr into 4th ch from hook, (RS) 1tr into each of the next 7ch, (front) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into each of the next 9ch, (shoulder) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into each of the next 20ch, (back) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into each of the next 9ch, (shoulder) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into each of the next 9ch. (front) Turn. (67tr + 3ch)

2nd Row – 3ch, * 1tr into each tr to next 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr of 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr of 3tr group, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.  (75tr + 3ch)

Rpt 2nd Row until 7 rows have been worked in all. Turn. (115tr + 3ch)

10th Row – (Divide for armholes) – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to 5tr group, 1tr into each of next 2tr, work 2tr into centre tr of 5tr, miss 31tr, (first armhole) work 2tr into centre tr of next 5tr group, 1tr into each tr to next 5tr group, 1tr into each of next 2tr, work 2tr into centre tr of 5tr group, miss 31tr, (second armhole) work 2tr into centre tr of next 5tr group, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row to make a round Turn. Fasten off. (89tr + 3ch)

Change to 5.00mm hook

Lower Part – With RS facing join colour 2 to a tr under one of the armholes, work 1ch, (1dc, 1htr, 1tr) into same tr, * miss 2tr, (1dc, 1htr, 1tr) into next tr, * working over front split were you slip stitched to make a round, rpt from * to * to last 2tr, miss 2tr, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (30 groups)

Pattern Row – 1ch, (1dc, 1htr, 1tr) into stitch at base of 1ch, * miss 1tr and 1htr, (1dc, 1htr, 1tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last tr and htr, miss tr and htr, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt Pattern Row until 18 pattern rows have been worked in all from yoke. Fasten off.

Change to 4.00mm hook

Rib – Using colour 1 make 3ch, 1tr into each st to end, 1tr into base of 3ch, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (90tr + 3ch)

Second Row – 3ch, * 1fptr into next tr, 1bptr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt Second Row three more times. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 – With WS facing and 4.00mm hook, join colour 1 to side of tr underarm, 3ch, 1tr into each of next 31tr, 1tr into side of tr on opposite side of armhole, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (32tr + 3ch)

Next Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. Rpt last row 6 more times until 8 rows have been worked in all from yoke or underarm sleeve seam measures approx 3.5 inches. Turn. Fasten off.

Change to 5.00mm hook.

Join in colour 2, make 1ch, (1dc, 1htr, 1tr) into base of 1ch, * miss 2tr, (1dc, htr, 1tr) into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr, miss 2tr, ss to first dc. Turn.

Work Pattern Row from lower part on body twice more. Fasten off. Turn. (11 groups)

Change to 4.00mm Hook.

Rib – Join in colour 1, make 3ch, 1tr into each st to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (32tr + 3ch)

Row 2 – 3ch, * 1fptr into next tr, 1bptr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt Row 2 twice more. Fasten off.

Button/Buttonhole Bands – With WS facing and working from neck downwards, join in colour 1 with a ss, 3ch, 2tr into each row end to end, Turn. (20tr + 3ch)

Starting with 3ch work * 1fptr into next tr, 1bptr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Fasten off.

Return to second side and with WS facing working from bottom up towards neck edge, rpt same as for button band. Fasten off. (20tr + 3ch)

Hood – With colour 1 and 4.00mm hook, make 80ch loosely, work 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (77tr + 3ch)

Starting with 3ch, work 8 rows of 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. Fasten off. (you can add extra or less rows here if required)

Using 5.00mm hook and colour 2, make 1ch, (1dc, 1htr, 1tr) into base of 1ch, * miss 2tr, (1dc, 1htr, 1tr) into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3tch, miss last tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (26 groups)

Next Row – 1ch, (1dc, 1htr, 1tr) into base of 1ch, * miss 1tr and 1htr, (1dc, 1htr, 1tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last tr, htr and dc, miss tr and htr, 1dc into dc. Turn.

Rpt last row once. Fasten off.

With 4.00mm hook join in colour 1, make 3ch, 1tr into each st to last tr, htr and dc, tr2tog over next 2st, 1tr into dc. Turn. (77tr + 3ch)

Rib – 3ch, * 1fptr into next tr, 1bptr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch.

Rpt last row twice more. Turn. Fasten off.

Work should measure approx 6 inches from beginning.

Finishing – Fold hood in half lengthways, whip stitch or slip stitch starting chain edge together.

Using colour 1 work 60dc evenly along neck edge.

Attach Hood to Sweater – Whip stitch or slip stitch through each ch along starting chain edge on yoke of sweater and front loop of dc along neck edge on hood. Fasten off.

Close small gaps under arms, secure ends of button bands to lower part, left over right or right over left (boy or girl) weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn, sew buttons evenly down button band and fasten through gaps in tr’s.
