Ribbed Baby Hooded Jacket – This beautiful jacket is an addition to my rib baby blanket and rib cuff baby booties.

Crocheted in beautiful bar stitch it makes an adorable set for gifts that mom’s, grandma’s and aunts can crochet and give with love.

For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

200 grams of King Cole Baby Comfort DK in colour 1
Small amount of King Cole Baby Comfort DK in colour 2

4.00mm crochet hook, 3 small buttons

Use a 4.50mm for 3-6 month baby

TENSION – 5dc & 6 rows measures approx 1 inch with 4.00mm

Sleeves x 2 – With WS facing join colour 1 to first un-worked dc under arm, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 26dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (27dc) (we will close the small hole you created from slip stitching to first dc later in the finishing section of the pattern)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 21 more rows of 1dc into each dc, slip stitching to first dc and turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2 and starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1 more row of 1dc into each dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Button/Buttonhole Bands – With WS facing join colour 1 to neck edge, 1dc into each ch around neck, 3dc into corner, work 31dc evenly into row ends down first front edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each st along bottom of jacket, 3dc into corner, work 31dc evenly into row ends up second front edge, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Buttonhole Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc down first front edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc along bottom of jacket, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each of next 20dc * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 5dc, * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn. Fasten off. (3 buttonholes)

Join in colour 2 and starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc and 2ch space down first front, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc along bottom, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc up second front. Fasten off.

Hood – With colour 1, make 54ch loosely, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, (RS) 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (53dc)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 32 rows of dc, turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2, make 1ch, work 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. Fasten off.

With WS facing, fold hood in half width ways and with colour 1 ss or over sew with needle and yarn cast on edges together.

With RS facing join colour 1 to neck edge on hood, starting with 1ch, work 52dc evenly along to end. Fasten off.

Attaching Hood to Jacket – Working on WS and missing button/buttonhole bands on both sides, attach hood to jacket by over sewing with needle and yarn or ss through back loop on jacket and front loop on hood. Fasten off.

Finishing – With WS facing close small gaps underarm, weave in all loose ends of yarn and trim, turn through to RS sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
