Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

Bonnet: 25 grams of King Cole Big Value Baby DK
Beanie: 30 grams of King Cole Big Value Baby DK
Use a small amount of baby DK in a contrast colour for bobble and edging.

4.00mm crochet hook

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

Bonnet – Worked in rounds without turning until the end of the 6th Row

Make 6ch, join with a ss to form a ring, (RS) 3ch, work 13tr into ring, join with ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (13tr + 3ch)

2nd Row – (Inc row) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 2tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (27tr + 3ch)

3rd Row – (Inc row) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (41tr + 3ch) 

4th Row – (Inc row) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * 2tr in next tr, 1tr in each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (55tr + 3ch)

5th Row – 3ch, 1tr into each of tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row.

6th Row – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, do not ss. Turn.

7th Row – 3ch, * shell (see abbrev) into next tr, miss 2tr, vst (see abbrev) into next tr, miss 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (9 shells, 9 vst, 1tr + 3ch)

First Pattern Row – 3ch, * work vst into 1ch space on vst, shell into 1ch space of next shell, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Second Pattern Row – 3ch, * work shell into 1ch space of next shell, vst into 1ch space on vst, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Rpt First & Second Pattern Rows until 7 shell & vst rows have been worked in all or work measures approx 5.5 Inches from crown. Fasten off.

Front & Neck Edging – Join in contrast colour, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, missing all 1ch spaces, work 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (56dc)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2 more rows of 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.

Ties – Make 60ch in contrast colour. Fasten off. (we will come back too)

With contrast colour, make 61ch, work ss into 2nd ch from hook, ss into each of the next 59ch, with RS of bonnet facing work 39dc evenly into row ends along the neck edge, (this joins first tie to side of bonnet) join second tie (made earlier) by working a ss into each of the 60ch. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn.

Beanie – Worked in rounds without turning until the end of the 6th Row.

Make 6ch, join with a ss to form a ring, (RS) 3ch, work 16tr into ring, join with ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (16tr + 3ch)

Second Row – (Inc row) 3ch, 2tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (32tr + 3ch)

Third Row – (Inc row) 3ch, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (48tr + 3ch)

Fourth Row – (Inc row) 3ch, * 2tr in next tr, 1tr in each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. (64tr + 3ch)

Fifth & Sixth Rows – 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row, turn at the end of the 6th Row.

Seventh Row – 3ch, miss 1tr, shell into next tr, * miss 2tr, vst into next tr, miss 2tr, shell into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr, miss 2tr, 1tr into base of 3ch, make 1ch, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (11 shells, 11 vst)
