For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:-

300 grams of King Cole Comfort Aran in each of the colours 1 & 2

6.50mm crochet Hook

TENSION – 1.5 pattern rpts & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

With colour 1 make 127ch loosely, (RS) Working into back bump (see pic) of stitch for this row, work 1 shell group (see abbrev) into 5th ch from hook, * miss 4ch, 1 shell group into next ch * rpt from * to * to last 2ch, miss 1ch, work 1tr into last ch. Turn. (25 shell groups)

2nd Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 2tr, work (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) into 1ch space on next shell group, make 2ch, miss 2tr, work 1dc into space between next 2 shell groups, * rpt from * to * to last shell group, make 2ch, miss 2tr, work (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) into 1ch space of next shell group, make 2ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into top of 4ch. Turn. Fasten off.

Change to colour 2.

Pattern Row 1 – 3ch, work 1 shell group into each 3ch space to last dc, 1tr into dc. Turn.

Pattern Row 2 – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 2tr, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) into 1ch space of next shell group, make 2ch, miss 2tr, work 1dc into space between next 2 shell groups, * rpt from * to * to last shell group, make 2ch, miss 2tr, work (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) into 1ch space of next shell group, make 2ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Change to colour 1.

Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 until 64 rows have been worked in all from beginning, changing colour every 2 rows.

65th Row – Rpt Pattern Row 1 once. Turn.

66th Row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, make 2ch, work 1dc into 1ch space on next shell group, * make 4ch, work 1dc into 1ch space on next shell group, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr, make 2ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into last tr. Fasten off. Turn

Border – Made in rounds without turning throughout.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc around blanket to end, working 3dc into corners and ss to first dc on beginning of row.

Next Row – 2ch, 1htr into base of 2ch, 1htr into each dc around blanket, working 3htr into corners and ss to top of 2ch on beginning of row.
