Flower Granny Square

This pretty flower granny square motif can be used for a multitude of different crochet projects, from things for around your home i.e table decorations, cushion covers etc.

Or use up all those remnants of yarn to make lots of them and join together for an afghan or baby blanket.

It is made with basic crochet stitches and is aimed at all crochet skills and levels.

Flower Granny Square

ch.     Chain
sc.     Single Crochet

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

ch3 counts as first dc

Approx Size: 4 Inches x 4 Inches

Materials
I have used:-
7 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in color 1
Small amounts of Stylecraft Special DK in colors 2 & 3

OR an equivalent yarn would be:-
0.25oz of Worsted Weight #3 in color 1
Small amounts of Worsted Weight #3 in colors 2 & 3

5.50mm & 4.00mm Clover crochet hooks

Made in rows without turning until Row 5.

Using color 1 make a magic circle, with 5.50mm hook ch1, work 6sc in ring, pull loose
strand of yarn to close circle, sl st to first sc on beginning of row.

Row 2 – ch1, 2sc in base of ch1, 2sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off. (12sc)

Row 3 – With 4.00mm hook and color 2, working in back loop of stitch only, ch3, work (1dc, ch2, 2dc) in base of ch3, * 1dc in each of next 2sc, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 2sc, 1dc in each of 2dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row.

Row 4 – Working through both loops of stitch from now on, ch3, 1dc in next dc, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next ch2 space, * 1dc in each of next 6dc, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next ch2 space, * rpt from * to * to last 4dc, 1dc in each of the 4dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row.

Row 5 – ch3, 1dc in next 3dc, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next ch2 space, * 1dc in each of next
dc, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next ch2 space, * rpt from * to * to last 6dc, 1dc in each of the 6dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn.

Row 6 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each dc around square and (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in each ch2 space to end. Fasten off.

Petals – Join in color 3 with a sl st to any of the loose loops you created on Row 3, (ch3, 3dc, ch3, sl st) in same loop, * skip 1 loop, (sl st, ch3, 3dc, ch3, sl st) in next loop, * rpt from * to * to last loop, skip loop, sl st to sl st on beginning of row. Fasten off (6 petals)

Finishing – Weave in all loose ends of yarn and trim off.
