Square Doily Free Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations
WS.   Wrong Side

RS.    Right Side
ch.     Chain
sc.     Single Crochet
hdc.   Half Double Crochet
dc.     Double Crochet
rpt.    Repeat
sl st.  Slip Stitch

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

Finished size:  8.5 inches x 8.5 inches

Materials
I have used:-
20 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft DK in each of colors 1 & 2

OR an equivalent yarn would be:-
0.7oz of Worsted Weight #3 cotton yarn in each of colors 1 & 2

5.00mm crochet hook

GAUGE – 4dc & 2 rows measures approx 1 inch

With color 1 ch17 loosely, 1dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (15dc)

Next Row – ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn.

Rpt last row until 7 rows have been worked in all.

At the end of the 7th row – DO NOT TURN.

Row 1 – Work 14sc evenly in row ends down first side of doily, 3sc in corner, work 1sc in each of next 13ch along cast on edge, 3sc in corner, 13sc evenly in row ends up second side of doily, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of next 13dc, 1sc in corner, sl st to first sc. Turn.

Row 2 – ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, first side * ch1, skip 1sc, 1dc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to 3sc group, ch1, skip 1sc, 3dc in next sc, (corner)

  • Second & third side, rpt from * to * to next 3sc group, ch1, skip 1sc, 3dc in next sc.
  • Fourth side rpt from * to * to last corner, ch1, skip 1sc, 1dc in base of ch2, sl st to first dc. Turn. Fasten off.

Row 3 – Join in color 2, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, first side, * 1hdc in next dc, sl st in next ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to 3dc group, 1hdc in next dc, 3sc in next dc, (corner)

  • Second & third side, rpt from * to * to next 3dc group, 1hdc in next dc, 3sc in next dc.
  • Fourth side, rpt from * to * to last corner, 1hdc in next dc, 1sc in base of ch1, sl st to first sc. Turn.

Rows 4 to 8 – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, First side 1hdc in next sc, * sl st in next hdc, 1hdc in next sl st, * rpt from * to * to 3sc group, (corner) 1hdc in next sc, 3sc in next sc.

  • Second & third Side, hdc in next sc, rpt from * to * to 3sc group, 1hdc in next sc, 3sc in next sc.
  • Fourth Side, hdc in next sc, rpt from * to * to last corner, 1hdc in next sc, 1sc in base of ch1, sl st to first sc. Turn.

Fasten off after Row 8.

Row 9 – Join in color 1, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc, hdc and sl st along four sides of doily, work 3sc in the first 3 corners and 1sc in base of ch1 on last corner, sl st to first sc. Turn.

Row 10 – 1 ch, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) in base of ch1, * skip 1sc, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) in next sc, * rpt from * to * along four sides of doily to end, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Finishing – Weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim off.
