Crochet Granny Doily

Crochet Granny Doily – I love this stitch pattern, I don’t know about you but the granny stitch was one of the first stitches I was taught in crochet, it is a versatile pattern than can be used in many projects, I hope you enjoy this one.

Abbreviations
RS.      Right Side

ch.      Chain
dc.      Double Crochet
rpt.    Repeat
sl st.  Slip Stitch

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

ch3 counts as first dc

Approx Finished Size:   9 Inch Diameter

Materials
For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn I have used:-

Small amounts of Paintbox Simple DK in each of the colors 1, 2 & 3

OR an equivalent yarn would be:-
Small amounts of Worsted Weight #3 in each of the colors 1, 2 & 3

Tip:
Crochet over loose ends as you go, this saves a lot of work at the end on weaving in.

Made in rounds without turning throughout.

Using color 1 make a magic circle (see pictorial) ch3, (RS) 2dc in circle, ch1, work (3dc, ch1) five times in circle, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Fasten off.
(6, 3dc groups)

Row 2 – Join color 2 to any ch1 space, ch3, (2dc, ch1, 3dc) in same space, ch1, * skip 3dc, work (3dc, ch1, 3dc) in next ch1 space, ch1 * rpt from * to * to end, skip 3dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Join in color 3 to any ch1 space.

Row 3 – ch3, 2dc in same ch1 space, ch1, * skip 3dc, work (3dc, ch1) in next ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to end, skip 3dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Fasten off.

Row 4 – Join in color 1 to any ch1 space and rpt Row 3.

Row 5 – Rpt Row 2.

Row 6 – Join in color 3 to any ch1 space and rpt Row 3.

Row 7 – Join in color 1 to any ch1 space and rpt Row 3.

Row 8 – Join color 2 to any ch1 space, ch3, (2dc, ch1, 3dc) in same space, * skip 3dc, work (3dc, ch1, 3dc) in next ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to end, skip 3dc, sl st to the top of the ch3 on beginning of row. Fasten off.

To make a larger doily using the appropriate colors, replace Row 8 with Row 2 and then rpt the Rows 3, 4 & 5 in the same way until the diameter measures your required size.

Finishing – Weave in all loose ends of yarn and trim.
